2013 NBA Draft thread

Gotta love Simmons for calling out Doc and sticking to his guns.

In the next five years, I like Cleveland's future better than Miami's.

Irving is gonna be a superstar, but Miami will be able to attract pieces to go around Lebron. Miami could be better, but i don't think he'd go back to Cleveland regardless.

If you believe the rumors, he's heavily considering it, and he's not signing an extension this summer.

Tony Mitchell and Peyton Siva. Me likey.

Siva can't shoot, but one of those guards who can just hassle people on defense. Reminds of a point guard Tony Allen.

Mitchell is a big 3/stretch 4 and I like his ability. Worth the risk IMO.

Sounds like Lindsey Hunter

Very nice comp.

Hey, he gives you 12-15 minutes and basically drives Rajon Rondo insane (which is always fun!). Sounds good to me.

I used to live when Hunter came in. That was back when i was a Pistons fan, because of Ben Wallace because he was from Alabama lol. I hope Lindsey does well at Phoenix.

The Wade and Bosh contracts will make it almost impossible for Miami to attract anything other than more retreads and spare parts to go around LeBron for three more seasons.

Like Mike Miller and Battier? I assume Ray Allen cost more than them though. Getting players like them is working so far. Miami needs a real center though.

I would say that Miller, Battier, and Allen all fall into the category of "retreads and spare parts," yes. How are Miami going to add a real center when three guys are eating up 70 percent of their payroll? They can't afford another good player unless their ownership is willing to follow the Nets' Russian guy deep into the bowels of the luxury tax.

As far as how it's been working so far -- I just don't think that what the Heat ask James to do is likely to be physically sustainable much longer. They need him to be their primary scorer, their primary playmaker, and defend the other team's best player; it's no coincidence that he's worn down in the last few weeks of the playoffs each of the last three years. It's not going to keep working much longer.

When free agency comes around next year, he'll be going into his age 30 basketball season. Miami won't be able to add anybody good because of the Wade and Bosh contracts. I can easily see him going somewhere else where he'd have more help.

Steals of the draft:

Caldwell-Pope
Kazemi
J Franklin (good for you Grizz fans)
McCollum

BTW, for those that remember the Jack Cooley conversation he really fell off at the end of the year, and wasn't projected highly by metrics. Still should've been drafted.

As bad as this years draft was, anybody else suprised CJ Leslie didnt get drafted. I saw where the Knicks picked him up.(no real suprise he got picked up)

Think he has more upside than a lot of the guys that went in the 2nd round. And maybe even better than some guys that went in the first. Thoughts?

Cooley is going to be on Grizzlies summer league team.

Just wanted to say I loved Stern antagonizing the crowd. I don't understand why the draft is open to the public, and I don't understand why people just constantly boo him.

If they pull off that Bledsoe/Afflalo trade, a nucleus of:

Bledsoe
Oladipo
Harris
Nicholson
Vucevic

is very talented.

Harkless is definitely starting at the 3. Harris would be a 4.

The Cavs and Pelicans (as stupid as that name is) should be very solid very soon.

Yeah, that's a really bad solution at PF, though. Vucevic is tough but you have to give him more help than that on the glass. They need a true PF.

I agree, but Harris is a better 4 than 3. And Nicholson would probably go to LA if that trade happened.

I'd rather have Harris than Nicholson, but I'd rather have Harris play 3 than 4. He gets killed on the glass. He's a decent rebounder for a 3, but totally inadequate as a 4.
