2013 more of a rebuilding year than 2012?

Does everyone not realize what kind of a season we must have in order for Bray, Hunter, and Rogers to all enter the draft? I can only hope we are that successful this year.

OP, Maybe.

DD either has done what it takes to keep a solid team year in and year out and 2013 will just be another step in success or someone else will be the HC for the Vols.

If DD fails this season and had failed in previous recruiting then I guess we could call it another rebuilding year.

we could say.. have a wicked season with 9-10 wins.. that momentum gives us the tools to pull top 5 class. Bray/hunter come back because they want a NC. and '13 could be the year UT is back on top and in the NC hunt....

Just sayin.. if we are going to guess at the future, I like mine better :)

Agree.

2013 will be the first recruiting class Dooley can start to reload or build depth on the team.

Like Dooley or not, the state of the program is in much better shape than when he arrived.

I'm getting tired of all these speculation threads. I'm just ready for the season to get here, and for Bray, Hunter, and Rogers to show us why people think they might leave early. Whatever happens after that happens and there is little we can do about it.

Program is much better. He has stabilized things. Now it is time to excel. GoVols.

early 2013 schedule:

Western Kentucky
at Oregon
at Florida
South Alabama
Georgia
Miss St.
at Alabama
South Carolina
(local cupcake)
at Missouri
Vandy
at Kentucky

Glad that isn't the schedule this year.

If that was for this years team I would take my expectations from 9 wins to 7 probably.

Why dont we worry about this year before we start thinking about 2013, not trying to be smart azz just hope we win 8 or 9 this year.

all these Bray/Hunter/Rogers leaving threads are a little too much

I agree, they will have to have a very good year and win more than most think .Now if Bray can throw for between 3500 and 4000 yards with 30 to 40 td and less that 10 int,s.AND Hunter and Rodgers get 60 to 70 receptions apiece and over a thousand yards apiece and 10 td,s it might not be a good thing for UT unless they want to come back to try and win the sec and more

Let's say vols win 8-9 games in '12 and the 3 leave (Bray/Hunter/Rogers) could you say 2013 would be more of a rebuilding year than 2012 because you are unsure of Worley/Peterman, WR corps would be very young and unproven, and RB still a question unless Lane takes off. Now I'll say this, defense should be better in 2013 than 2012.

Thoughts?

I'm not sure why people couldn't see this as a possibility. Especially since the passing game is easily the strongest part of the team.

Of course it is. There are more players on the team now.

Unless we lose the whole OL as well then it isn't nearly as big of a project. There are a few other positions like DL and LB that will be in better shape in 2013 as well.

Go Vols

how can LSU football go from great to grud back to great along with Georgia/Alabama/Arkansas/Auburn even to lesser extent Miiss st and Kentucky? It goes in cycles. We did not amass almost 800 wins in football by playing Sewanee 800 times. We played and beat the best in football over our history. We will be back within 5 years Dooley or not. These aforementioned teams did not stay down more than ten years at any point----minus Miss st and Kentucky. We will make it back mark my words.
Except Fla wining since 1979 (0-10-1) must be great

I'm pretty sure Rogers will leave. If Bray and Hunter are both still here after this year, I would bet Dooley won't be.

i think this is way off. if Dooley gets canned, im sure they will be looking to get out of the dumpster fire. i do agree with your previous post, that it is a legitimate concern, especially Hunter. if he is back to form, why hang around in college and risk another injury? Bray is a coin flip, imo.

I prefer the idea that all 3 stay for their senior year, we win the SEC East and have a legit shot at the SEC Championship and a possible shot at another National Championship.

Winning it all is the best dream.

VFL...GBO!!!

I like this! Don't think all 3 leave. Actually think all return unless we win 11 or more this year!

Offense:

Gone: Dallas Thomas, Mychal Rivera, Bartholemew
Potentially gone: D. Rogers, Bray, Hunter, J. James (some argue Patterson if as good as advertised).

Defense:
Gone: P. Waggner, H. Lathers
Potentially Gone: Not sure anyone that qualifies would leave

The loss of Clear hurts when you couple it with losing Rivera at the end of the year. The way we have recruited WR the past couple years we may not have a game changer like Rogers and Hunter, but we should be still solid at the position. We need another year of solid WR recruiting just in case Patterson is as good as advertised.

You may well be right about that. Still, I do think that if Bray does well enough to go to the draft, he will leave. I also think that if he doesn't do well enough to leave, Dooley will be fired. That's what I was basing my statement on.

Bray has a very probable chance at coming back just because the QB crop for this upcoming draft is stacked. Matt Barkley, Tyler Wilson, Landry Jones, and Logan Thomas all have Top 10 potential so Bray just may look at the class of QB's as a logjam at the top and head back to school for another year.

If Bray and Rogers leave after this season, which is a strong possibility, 2013 is potentially Dooley's last season as coach. Going 8-4 next season in 2012 is not that tough. Good group of players returning and an easier schedule.

2013 is a question mark if he has to replace Bray. Doesn't look like a top QB prospect will be signed this year. So it's probably Peterman as the starter in 2013. Wasn't impressed with Worley as a freshmen, he's an adequate back-up not really a starter IMO. Maybe Bray spoiled me, the way he played as a true freshmen.

So if Peterman starts in 2013, first season as a starter as a redshirt freshmen with a learning curve, UT probably ends up 7-5 or 6-6. I think people will be asking for a change at the top if that happens. Unless Peterman is a heck of a QB prospect, UT hasn't had a running game for 2 seasons now, could be another long season.

Dooley dropped the ball this year in recruiting at QB. Of the top 15 QB's on rivals, 2 have not made a committment. Let's hope Bray decides to stay for his senior year, but there were rumors he's struggled academicly, leads me to believe he might want to go early.

Flame away.
