2013 LB recruiting

The same people preaching that stars don't matter would be beyond ecstatic if we landed a five star player. It's unbelievably hypocritical.

Ummm no, cause our coaches would think they were a good player. Has nothing to do with stars. They would be evaluating players just the same. Maybe you should cheer for Miami if you want to rely on the stars system.

Don't get me wrong, I don't want a coach that is all flash like Dabo but can't do a thing with the talent handed to him. You need coaches that can recruit and coach.

I know it's a bit of a joke but there is nothing flashy about Dooley. He doesnt have the resume Saban has to lure talent to him. It's time to bring out the hot sauce. I really think Sal and Graham are going to be those energetic recruits that just attract kids to them if we start winning.

That's such a kool-aid sipping attitude. "Oh, our coaches offered him, he most be good. Disregard that Florida International and Indiana are his only other offers. Our coaches know what's up. I sure hope that four star linebacker that Alabama or Florida just got turns out to be a bust."

It doesn't have to do with stars, you're right. But there is a correlation. Most of those highly rated kids are coincidently highly sought after kids, too.

I'm not ready to accept the infallibility of our coaching staff like others on here until they prove 1) they can win, and 2) they win with these underrated kids they offered at camp.

TN has went 5-7, 7-6, 6-7 and 5-7 the last 4 years. You expecting top 10 classes with that?

Dooley has out recruited tons of schools while he has been here. So if he can recruit highly rated kids here with those records, what makes you think he wouldn't be pulling in top rated classes with 10 win seasons? We don't need hot sauce, we need wins.

I trust people who actually coach for a living, they see what it takes to be a football player day in and day out. No school out there only recruits high end recruits, they take chances on kids. When you have won 23 games in 4 years, coaches have to use their expertise in recruiting, because 5* kids are not going to be knocking down your door.

Not Florida, Bama, Georgia, LSU, or Auburn. We have been about level with SC. I don't care who else we have out recruited.

Certain types of coaches can still attract the right talent to a down program.

So you're saying you'd trust anyone UT or any university paid to do this?

Good gracious.

You have 2 true soph lb's that are potential 4 year starters and complain about poor lb recruiting.

Too bad this thread is talking about LB recruiting from last year's class and this upcoming class.

I doubt you will see anybody question the fact that A.J. and Curt are studs.

Of course. Why prepare for the future? We should just wait until their senior year to find someone to replace them.

I mean, why should we want to get talent on this football team. That seems absurd.

It is valid to question the talent of the players they recruit. It is not valid to disparage same due to a lack of stars. So if you have a particular ability to analyze talent levels of high school football players without cheat sheeting from Rivals, 247, etc. - by all means let the UTAD know so they have you on the short list should CDD not make it.

Dumbing down VN one post at a time...

Too bad the two studs you speak about are from last years class.
And too bad its June. They still have to play their Sr years, and signing day is a football season away.

Resident Whiner of the year checks in to *****.

Shocker.

I'm sure their plan is to not plan for the future by choosing bad football players.
Good call by you, as usual.
Never heard of someone admit to not understanding the game, and not have played or coached, give so much damn advice about it.

Your sarcasm meter broken?

I wasn't the one *****ing about our LB recruiting.

In regards to your last sentence, you are approaching Negateer level of consistency. Unfortunately, we can't all be the great contributors to our team like you, our board's personal Rudy.

No. No, they're not.

Class of 2011 is last years class. Class of '12 is this years class. '13 is next years class. So yes. Yes they are from last years class.

Problem is that you dweebs are *****ing about some players that haven't even played their Sr years yet, and about some players that have yet to play one down in a practice at the college level.

Name me one?

First, you just named 5 schools that reside in talent rich states.

LSU - We beat them in rankings last year.

Georgia - Beat them in 2010; they dont even have to leave the state to pull a top 10 and they don't do that most years.

Florida - Finished 1 spot higher in 2011; also does not have to leave state to pull a top 10 and has won 2 NC's since 06.

Auburn - Won NC in 2010.

Bama - Won NC in 09 and 2011.

Our 23 wins are supposed to stack up with that? Even so, two of the teams we have finished higher than.

As for SC; over the last 3 years have avg'd a 20th ranked class. TN has avg'd a 13th ranked class. So 7 ranks apart.

LSU- 10th
Georgia- 11th
Florida- 6th
Auburn- 7th
Alabama- 2nd

So if TN has been about equal to SC in your eyes, what does it makes us to everyone but Bama? Cause the way I see it we are 7 or closer in rankings to the rest of them.

Keep in mind we have won 23.

ND and FSU have been bringing in the highest rated players Rivals, ESPN, and 247 have to offer for years. Yet, their teams could not be more mediocre.

We're going to avoid mediocrity by trusting our own evaluations, not chasing the stars.

ND when they fell off>>>> the excuse was the high standards >>>> please give me a fookin break

I wouldn't say Im settling for mediocrity, just not ready to say that the kid doesn't deserve to wear the Power T on his helmet, before his senior season has even started. Its only June. If we are having this conversation in November or December (and we still don't have an impressive LB commit), than it would be a different story. Give the coaches and players some time.

pay for that for a few years.......keep on cheering for the power T
