2013 F Austin Nichols (Memphis Briarcrest)

What are you talking about re: Nichols?

As for the fight, seems like everything was pretty much confirmed, right down to Cheivous' mysterious disappearance for 3-4 weeks. But like I said, it was handled internally and everything seems to be ok. I never made a big deal of it, nor insenuated it was.

You told me I was clueless when I gave his top 3 current schools, which is information I had first hand from Briarcrest.
And you still stick to this fight story. 3-4 weeks? You realize Stokes wrist injury was recent? You realize a broken jaw means wiring the mouth shut? You realize a broken nose means a bruised face for a long period?
I just find it funny that if someone knows something, you tell them they don't know squat, but you stick to a story about something that didn't happen.

Well, the fight info came from a person with connections to the UT basketball program, so I'll take it on it's face.

I'm no doctor, so I don't know what a fractured jaw means. As someone who has had a broken nose before, it clears up pretty quickly though. I'll reiterate, I don't have a dog in this fight, I was simply passing on information that may be of interest to UT fans.

As for discussing Nichols with you, I don't ever remember having a discussion with you about him. His leaders are and have been Duke and UF, but with UNC, UK and Louisville getting in the mix, that may have shifted.

Tennessee isn't even in the mix for Nichols???

Comical.

They may be, has Austin given an updated list recently?

I don't follow the kid too closely, but he's gotten a lot of attention lately. UT may be in the mix, I know he enjoyed his trip here. He's re-tweeted UT fans, but he's retweeted UF fans, Memphis fans, etc.

I try not to deal in speculations.

YES!!!

He has made comments about UT being one of his favorites, so for you to not web mention them as contenders is ridiculous.

As Spart also said, he has spoken directly with briarcrest and was told very recently UT and DUKE are his 2 favorites, and in pretty sure he even said Tennessee is leading at this point.

Cal? Not really. If you mean by a "run at Stokes" that he reached out to him to gauge interest, then maybe.

But then you can say Cal has made a run at about 75 players in the 2012 class, which is disengenuous. Cal is/was after bigger fish in the 2012 class, and is holding scholarships for Nerlens Noel and Bazz Mohammed. An undersized, 270 lb 4 man doesn't necessarily fir into Cal's scheme.

What connections to the Kentucky program do you have to make such a statement? I understand that in your opinion he's not a good match for UK, but do you have information that supports your claim that coach cal was just gauging interest? What we do know is that stokes was asked to visit and is a top 12 player in his class.

I dunno, 12+ years of watching Cal operate. I know the style of player that he likes for his system, and Stokes, although he is a great player, isn't that guy. Anthony Davis, Terrance Jones, Kyle Witljer, Nerlens Noel, Cousins are Cal's post-men.

Nothing I saw from Cal or Kentucky told me that Cal was pushing hard for Stokes. When Cal is pushing hard for someone, you hear about it. He shows up with his entourage to multiple games, has players to Midnight Madness, etc. Shows more interest than "hey, you wanna visit?". Seems Cal was either just taking Stokes' temperature or got wind of the TSSAA DQ and saw the writing on the wall.

I think where people have a problem with your posting is illustrated in this conversation. You make absolute statements based on nothing more than assumptions you form from being the average fan. I understand that you see people on rivals, 24/7, and Espn do this same thing, but they get paid to guess and we all enable them. When you come on a rival team board and make absolute statements based on nothing more than being a long time basketball fan, you come off as arrogant and elitist.

Really? If people have a problem with that, then VN may as well get rid of 95% of the posters on this board.

As for making "absolute statements" about Cal's system, just use your own sensory perception. DOES Stokes fit the mold for any post man that Cal has employed in his system since the days of Chris Massie?

Cal goes for posts that are tall, lanky, (or at least freaksihly athletic) and solid defensively. From Joey Dorsey to Shawn Taggert to Demarcus Cousins to Eloy Vargas and Terrance Jones to Anthony Davis to Nerlens Noel. You don't need to be an insider to understand this.

Stokes is a great player, and a personal favorite of mine, but your prototypical Cal recruit he is not. It's not a knock on Stokes at all.

How many NCAA championships has he won with his current formula? Who are you to say he didn't want to take a chance on a five star recruit(number 11 recruit in the nation..... I mean cmon man this isnt some sleeper)improving his chance to win the big one. As for volnation, It is my experience that the misinformed elitist posters are treated as such. Example being your weekly argument with a different vol poster.

Why do I care if he's winning championships or not? His "formula" is doing pretty well this season, but if you have an issue with how he puts his teams together, take it up with him I guess. That's a completely different issue than the one we're discussing.

As for the posters on VolNation, a majority of you guys are good posters, and you don't seem to mind an opposing team's perspective on your basketball program or basketball in general. I don't come in here and blast Martin or the Vols, but I'm not going to pull my punches, especially when challenged simply on the fact that I'm a Memphis fan. I think I tell it like it is. The posters that get into arguments with me are the ones that can't seem to take the orange-colored glasses off and look at issues in an objective manner. Either that, or the one's I call out for simply making up information to garner attention or up a post count.

Speaking of wrong info how's UCONN as a 9 working out for you?

Or your latest dandy that UT isn't even in the hunt for Nichols. This after the kid has vocally stated that UT is one of his favorites, very informed info you bring.

Priceless...

^^^^ Exhibit "A". This one seems obsessed with me.

Let it go, bruh.

You know that I never said that UT wasn't in the running, in fact, I explicitly said it was a possibility. You just want something to argue about, however insignificant. I.e the UConn thing.

I'm sure there are other ways for you to make 500 posts per day without constantly trying to redeem yourself in arguments with me.

Let it go, bruh.

When naming his favorites and schools after him you never named UT.

But oh ok bruh!

His "favorite" schools are UF and Duke, which I named. I never said they were the only two in the running for him. If putting words in my mouth is the only way you can try and "get me" then have at it.

A kid giving lip-service to a visit (which all recruits do, remember when Stokes said his visit to Arky was his favorite?) and a confirmed report from someone close to the kid's situation are two different things.

But you hold out hope kiddo, who am I to tell you different?

Wow. You have made a lot of bold, absolute statements about Austin to then say, "I don't follow the kid too closely...".

How do you expect us to respect you as a poster here with contradicting statements like this? :dunno:

There are confirmed reports wtf are you talking about? This isn't just people on VN opinions, it's rivals scout and espn opinions along with people that have spoken with his coaches.

You're the only person that thinks Duke and Florida are 1 and 2.

You seriously are clueless.

I don't follow the kid that closely. I keep up with him loosely because he's a Memphis kid and the Tigers have been recruiting him, but there are many other recruits I pay more attention to. I'm not sure about contradicting statements, I'm only passing along information that I've been told. When I'm giving my personal opinion, I'll make it known.
