Just watched his highlights. He certainly has a penchant for knocking kids helmets off. Was throwing kids around like rag dolls in his video.

What are ya'll's thoughts?

Hes a big body at the S position and has SPEED. Hits hard. He's versatile can play D and O so if S doesn't work out maybe a shot a WR or RB/ Wildcat . I like it, but is he worth it ?

I'm kind of all for taking this kid as our 5th DB if he really is 6'2", 200 lbs, and runs a 4.4. His brother, Taylor, is an amazing athlete.

Clear that the coaches are looking to add some speed on the back end of the defense. Kind of searching around, it seems.

I'm skeptical of those measurements. I can't imagine more programs wouldn't want him if they are true.

From a rivals article on 8/22/12...

"Southern California 2012 Athlete Watchlist"

4.) Drake Martinez, Laguna Beach Sr.

Knock him all you want for playing a lower level of competition, but you can't knock his production. Martinez carried the ball 180 times for 1,889 yards and 27 touchdowns last season, showing off excellent speed with his long strides, reportedly running the 40-yard dash in the 4.4-second range. The 6-foot-2, 200-pound athlete also caught 12 passes for 285 yards and two more scores, averaging close to 25 yards per catch. He's also got considerable value on the defensive side of the football, where his frame and speed suggest a future at safety. Martinez picked off six passes in 2011, returning one interception for 62 yards and a touchdown. Nebraska and San Diego State have both offered the Laguna Beach senior.

He's the Cali Cody Blanc, but seriously, I would like to see him come aboard. I think we need as many talented, fast defensive backfield players as we can get personally.

Also, maybe this is insurance in the case we lose Miles and/or can't pull Bell? Just a thought.

We're looking for our 5th DB.

Drake, Casey and Churchill agree, however, the 6-foot-2, 197-pound senior with a 40 time in the 4.3s is an even better defensive player.

Despite the Nebraska offer, Drake remains under the national radar. His only other offer is from San Diego State, though Churchill said there are about a dozen major programs asking about him. Recruiting coordinators have told the Martinez family they like Drake at five different positions: running back, receiver, safety, linebacker and, pending his growth, defensive end.

Said this yesterday in another thread, but we are recruiting more and more athletes and putting them on the defensive side of the ball. JRM, Sutton, and Campbell. Martinez would fit this movement.

The guy doesn't play against any competition. The high school "David Amerson" great stats but he aint play no one. This will be an epic fail a waist of a scholly we need to develop depth and talent. What you guys claim Dooley doesn't have so why waste a scholly.
