2013-14 UT vs USM NCAA Stats
Thought it might interest some of you to view the stat comparison. I tried this both in Excel and just typing it into the thread but the format was off both ways. To help you interpret, the first two numbers for each statistic are UT's actual statistic and national ranking. The second two numbers are USM's actual statistic and national ranking. Hope that helps!

Thank you for taking the time to put this together. The more I read about Tyndall's previous teams the better I feel about this upcoming season.

A little further analysis. Tennessee led scoring offense, scoring defense, rebound margin, blocked shots, FG% defense, and FT%. Southern Miss led assists, steals, T.O. margin, FG%, 3 pt%, and WL%. Four of the stat comparisons were washes. Assists, blocked shots, steals, T.O. margin, FG%, 3 pt %, FT%, and WL% were significantly different.

We would have done them like UL did.

since when did our team's handle the press? Fla pressed us and dropped back into a zone 3 times last year and we avg'd 49 pts. Of course Fla was better than USM, but we did not want to be pressed, didn't know how to attack a press and always struggled against zone teams.

Does Alabama not press anymore? I thought Alabama pressed. I figure they are more similar to USM than Florida.

We lost to MTSU last time we played them....how about like opponents.....they whipped UTEP twice.

I think I'll take UT's team to win 8 or 9 out of 10 against last years USM team. This isn't to bash DT, but there is a huge talent difference between the two rosters. Comparing USM to UT isn't really fair for either team.

Lost to a 7 player candy.......what's the point

We would have smashed last years USM team and they lost to and nearly lost to teams that we would not have lost to. 7 player Vandy loss is still better than WKU or being 5 points better than a 6-25 school that is basically a DII team. This doesn't make CDT a bad coach. People are kidding themselves if they think we would have lost to them or that CDT never has bad losses though.

We lost to UTEP bad.....a team that they whipped twice.....nothing is a given in basketball but I agree we were a much more talented team and should have won.....it's why so many were upset at our disappointing regular season.

When the chips were down UT won. I do understand that is frustrating, and there were some head scratchers along the way, but UT ended up winning the games they needed to win to get into the tournament, and they won 3 games (2 for some people) in the tournament.

When the chips were down, USM got ran out of the gym by a marginal La Tech team.

Start of the year UT would have struggled with USM. End of the year UT would have destroyed them.

UT for all their winning at the end of the yr was still just one loss from being knocked out. USM lost to a good LA Tech team in the conf tourney which UT also failed to win. The difference between the two teams resumes was SOS and if Tenn SOS had of been where most thought it would be at the beginning of the yr we would have been left out. All credit goes to the team for rallying to finish like they did though.

One loss away, I agree, but the one loss didn't happen. Sort of like how iKrager noted that a win is a win and a loss is a loss. Basketball is a tournament sport, and teams are judged on how they do in the tournament. UT lost a tight game to a #1 seed, and USM got boat raced by La Tech when they knew they had to win. I suppose both are losses, but UT's loss didn't knock them out of the tournament, and USM's loss did.

I think comparing the two teams from last year is dumb. People bash me for not being over Martin, but then you get posts like this trying to compare apples to oranges.

That's what tells me how hard it is for u to get over Zo.....I read the op and thought it was a neat comparison of the two teams to see what each did well....people can argue all the variables and whether each is a trend or a one yr thing....I didn't take it as a crack on Zo or celebrating CDT....just informative.....granted one fan said USM would have spanked us last yr but I knew u would be here quickly in defense mode.

he's not getting over Zo, which is the only reason he was here in the first place. Have no idea wtf he is still here, other than to try to irritate others with his incessant Zo bull****

Just a little clarity on schedule, USM was ranked 32 in RPI before the NCAA tournament and Tennessee was ranked 40. The game would have been a toss up depending on which team was hot and whether USM's press and match up zone or UT"s man-to-man prevailed.
