A few weeks too early, but this has been in the back of my mind since I read the quote last season. McElwain's response after last years game was:
Source: Gators once again turn Rocky Top into Rocky Bottom - Orlando Sentinel
Of course, we all remember Dooley's locker room comments after the Vols OT win against Vandy in 2011 - Tennessee always "kicks the $#@! out of Vandy." The next season Franklin embarrassed us in Nashville.
Personally, I struggle to get on board with a win given the recent history of giving the game away to FL, but I'm curious as to how many people think the parallel here has any relevance.
Do McElwain's comments last season (and the ones from this offseason) provide "bulletin board" material for the Vols? Or does this purely come down to UT getting over the mental hurdle that is the UF game?
Bumping this for FL week:
The question I'm curious about is whether VN thinks that "bulletin board material" will make a difference here for extra fire and motivation, or whether at this is entirely a mental hurdle to overcome for players and coaches.
Boiled down:
motivation to play harder vs. belief they can actually win
"You just don't lose to Tennessee," Florida first-year coach Jim McElwain said of UF's vast psychological advantage when playing the Vols.
