2012 roster

That's assuming that experience equates to significantly better performance. Tennessee will be better, for sure, but "freaking awesome" might be another year away.

Thanks for posting your opinion. Too bad nodody gives a $h!t what your opinion is. :furious3:

Most of you are setting yourselves up for disappointment again next year. We will be improved, and should have a really good offense barring any major injuries, but the defense will still be a huge question mark. Still don't have any corners, dtackles, and absolutely zero depth. Also, don't point to the signing of a juco d-tackle like Jacobs, and expect some immediate contribution. If this year has taught me anything, it's to never get overly excited/expect too much from incoming juco's, regardless of their rating. Vol fans all over the internet had Byron Moore penciled in as a lockdown corner and immediate starter before he stepped foot on campus, and we all see how that has turned out.

Anybody thinking we were going to be competitive again by 2012 when we hired Dooley didn't/doesn't really have a full grasp of just how bad off we were.

I agree. showing improvement year to year is one thing. being competitive is another.

if we go through this year and win what we are supposed to and lose what we are supposed to, we are not competitive.

When we can go through a year and win those we are supposed to and knock off a team we were not supposed to, then we are about to turn the corner to being competitive.

We are still a few years and classes from being competitive, legitimate chance to play for SEC Championship. You don't play for championships with only 3 super stars..

Pretty sure we sold Jacobs as being our only JUCO DT in this class.

That is why most of our attention has turned to Shanks and Kirven because it is more likely we grab another one out of HS.

I think our D line should be stout next year...not up to Bama or LSU levels, but will be on par with our East rivals.

we are going to have a hard time holding Jacobs. he is looking and so are we.

I'm not saying who we are going to get but am saying who I think we need to get to have a chance at more success next year

Wish we had a freak at running back and a lock down corner.

Also more speed at OLB and another Malik Jackson type at DT. We'll be decent but not great.
I agree on the the Corner, why is teague so slow? I know our FR OLB's had a rough game on the outside against Georgia, But I thought they looked real Impressive and composed against Lsu. They will be good, A.J will prob be better on the inside though.

I gotcha...and I have a good feeling we still land Jacobs.

He and Autry are visiting for the USCe game...we need to make sure that vist goes really well.

I don't see why a team returning 19 starters, including a star at QB, two star WR's, a Oline with 2 years starting experience, a great kick returner, and a defense only losing two starters can't be "competitive."

By competitive I mean playing with every team on our schedule and winning 8 or 9 games in the regular season.

Is that asking too much next year? I don't think so.

Still only 2 deep at Receiver, not much game-breaking ability at tailback, and an offensive line that has made very little progress this season. On defense we lose our best player, our starting middle backer, and remain very thin in SEC talent up front. We'll be ok, but 2012 doesn't look as good to me now as it did when the season started.

it is incredible to think about the returning talent we will have next year and Dooley will only win 6 games!

It is because he is 5'9 and wears a size 17 shoe.

Looks like an 8 or 9 win team to me. Hope to see some improvement from some players because if not we will be looking at another year like this one.

Just for fun.

I'm just flat out guessing but I figure for 2012 we go to a 6-1-1 rotation with Mizzou in the East (don't think we go to 9 game conf schedule until BCS gives SEC Bowl Qual consessions if ever).

My guesses on schedule and outcome ( W-L)

9/1 NC State (in Atlanta) 1-0
9/8 Georgia State 2-0
9/15 Florida 3-0
9/22 Akron 4-0
9/29 At Georigia 5-0
10/6 At Missouri 6-0
10/13 Bye (could switch date with 10/6)
10/20 Alabama 6-1
10/27 At South Carolina 7-1
11/3 Troy 8-1
11/10 Arkansas 9-1
11/17 At Vanderbilt 10-1
11/24 Kentucky 11-1
12/01 SECCG vs Alabama 11-2
Bowl Game 12-2

Of course Fl and Ga are iffy, Ark loses too much, same with USCe I think. Assumes we are healthy in all critical areas and our new class can help a little. 25 other disclaimers unlisted. :)

Anyway, my question is which 2 or 3 of those "Regular Season" games that I have marked as a W would you figure should be marked as an L at this point in the guessing game?

(P.S. I'm only conceding the Alabama games so the inference can be made that no hard drugs were involved in developing this projection).

I don't expect 11-1, or a 10-2 season. But if we have a 6-6 record next season, I don't see much hope for the direction of this program, even with the depths of the issues post Fulmer. I, too, will then become a Negavol.

Next year is going to show us alot. Dooley can't use the excuse "inexperience" or "growing pains" anymore. If we don't win atleast 8 games something is seriously wrong.

Justin Hunter. EB is great but, would he of made UGA and Florida a win like Hunter would of? I don't know.

Say Dooley goes 7-5 next year regular season. How do you all view the general consensus among the fanbase and administration if we had that type of record? I ask because I see 7-5 a very likely possibility, with a chance at 8-4. Hell, we're still gonna be one or two key injuries away from being a 6-6 team next year.

With injuries to key players, I could accept 7-5. Without that, I would consider it as a prelude to a must year in 2013 for Dooley. 6-7, 6-6 ( or thereabout this year), and 7-5 next year does not ring as successful to me.

If Dooley goes 7-5 next year, he will "officially" be considered on the hotseat, the next year.

With the players we have returning and the players we have coming in, look the hell out. Let me add, some of this is hope out of landing Autry and Patterson. If we can add those two along with Jacobs in the JUCO class this is gonna be one hell of a team. I think we MAY have ourselves a team that is capable of winning a NC. I know that's alot to take in right now guys and gals, but '12 may blow us all away.
