2012 Recruiting Class

So, to recap:

When the ink dries tomorrow, if Leggett, Davis, and Kirven sign, that means Tennessee will sign 10 of the Rivals 250. That would mean 13 4-stars overall. The three 4-stars not included in the top 250 include Daniel McCullers, our JUCO DT who is also tied as our highest-rated recruit overall, QB Nathan Peterman, the #1 QB out of Florida this year, and Alton Howard, an Under Armour All American. Then there's Darrington Sentimore, a JUCO transfer who was a 4-star out of HS and played as a freshman at Alabama. This isn't even considering a commitment from Cordarrelle Patterson. He would be our single highest rated recruit and bring the number of 4s to 14.

There's really not much left to say. Dooley's best class, on paper, yet. Only time will tell how the class pans out, but there is a lot of reason for optimism. And the best thing is that 2013 looks like it will be even better.

Optimistic about the future. We all want Tennessee to win, regardless of how we feel about Derek Dooley. He's proven he can recruit with the best of them. Now he has to prove he can coach.

Leggett is all VOL as long as he can qualify. If he can't he will choose Marshall. Let's hope his grades pan out. IMO....Kirven will stay home....Borque will be at Miami....Peters signs with the VOLS because as a family...they like Tennessee. WR is crowded with Bowles, Croom, Howard and Q. Davis.....So, Patterson goes to Ole Miss or UGA because he only has 2 years and doesn't want to waste them behind great talent. This is only my opinion....We pick up Kirven, Leggett, and Davis....giving us 23 with Bullard giving us 24....back count 1....though we are still over the 85 by 2 scolly's....who does Dooley cut?

Damn good post.

As for what's in bold, it is much easier to succeed with better players. I know Coach Dooley has many detractors, to put it mildly, but the man is slowly rebuilding Tennessee. I am completely confident the man can get Tennessee competitive again. The doubt in my mind about him is if he is a championship coach but if he continues to reel in top classes, the answer will be seen soon enough.

Great post, really sums up what a terrific job Dooley and the staff have done, despite the on-field record and coaching turnover. I doubt many teams would have had these type of results facing the challenges from this past season. Now if he proves that last sentence you wrote, there is no reason to be anything but optimistic! This is just speculation, but I would be amazed if there are no OL silent commitments. I think we pull an OL silent in on signing day just for depth reasons.

I'll give a run down on what i think as of right now. I will be surprised if we lose any recruit that is currently committed, they all seem solid.

Q Davis- I think we're in good shape here. He raved about the stadium and loves the tradition of Tennessee football. He likes the fact we have two potential first round wr's he can learn from that will help him become a better wr.The kid has been recruited by WF for a long long time and academics are very important to him. But in the end, i think hes a vol.

C Patterson- As some of you know, i have friends that work inside other ads, a friend of mine at ole miss tells me that cp told the OM coaches he would be a rebel. Guess what? He has said the same thing to our coaches, while i dont know it to be fact, he probably told the uga coaches the same. If reports surface tomorrow that he has committed to UT/UGA/AUB/OM, my advice is pay no attention to them until weds when the papers are in.

K Kirven- Friday Tennessee was the team to beat, VT had alot of work to do over the weekend and they knew it. CSS is the main reason, Kirven was most likely heading to Bama before the CSS hire. i know thats not what the homerized VT beat writers will say or want to hear, but its the truth.I dont know if they pulled it off or not, if i hear anything tomorrow i'll pass along what info i can. We all know its very tough pulling a kid from that area, and in the back of my mind im thinking Kirvens mom not making it here last week could hurt. Kirven will announce at 8:00am i believe, hopefully gets the ball rolling in our favor.

A Leggett- I think we end up taking this kid. This kid has bigtime talent and would be a great addition to the class.
I feel Tennessee believes they can get him in school and done a great job convincing Leggett as well. Leggett will
most likely make his thoughts public tomorrow.

Nothing earth shattering, just my thoughts 36 hours from nsd. This should be a pretty boring nsd as far as drama goes, i know we're not used to that.

Skeeter would we still wait to hear back from Lambert since we lost out on Santos?

No o-lineman in this class, 90% of the time that comes back to haunt you as well. Not sure how they failed here, you never go without taking oline and dline.

First of all, Wednesday cannot get here fast enough. I feel as if we end up w/Leggett, Kirven, and Q. Davis at the end of the day. I'd love to have C. Patterson; but if what Skeeter said is true (that he's telling all the coaches that he is going to commit to them), is that a player the Vols want in the locker room. Apparently we already have a prima donna in Da'Rick Rogers. Do we need another? Sounds like the next Kelley Washington to me (phenom on the field, but a cancer in the locker room). And if we sign 3 of the 4, that leaves one slot open to make a play for the linebacker from New Jersey. Long shot, but you never know. Go Vols!!!

My thoughts are "What if" One of the forcasted players desides to play at another school...Then where do we look to fill the roster...I believe CDD is good at looking for the player that gets bump by other teams...then who fills the vacancy?...

We're finally in a position that we dont have to take kids just fill out the roster, we finally have some depth. I dont think Tennessee will do much after nsd. Next year is setting up to be a monster year recruiting wise for Tennessee. If we get 2 of the last 4, dont be surprised if we cont carry those over til next year. No need to spend a scholly on a reach anymore or just to put another body in the locker room. If a legit player is available, sure they would go after him. I would say thurs going forward, most of the attention will be spent on the 13-14 classes. Dooley is about to turn up the heat on the Berry twins also.

So Skeeter, you hearing anything from the coaches this AM on Kirven?

When do you expect Leggett to decide? I think I saw you said sometime today possibly?

Just a word of caution.

Last year many got hyped with possible late additions. UT pretty much signed their commits and did not get any of those late guys.

This is a very good class if they sign the 20 commits they have now. If the scenario described by HSVol works out then this would actually be one of the best classes in quite awhile top to bottom with respect to meeting needs with quality players.

Fulmer tended to have big classes then smaller "meets needs" classes. On avg, his classes ranked about the same as DD's first three appear to be... right around 10th or 11th per Rivals. DD's clases are obviously more consistent AND the signees seem to have fewer issues that could end their careers early. AND Dooley has done it AFTER the program's image took a major hit and NOT while the glow of a national championship was still there.

UT does not have a depth issue on the OL. With the RS players from last class, the OL's are distributed with about 3 or 4 per class. Next year needs to be a good OL class with 3-5 commits.

Fulmer's last 3-4 classes seemed more like grasping at straws and buffering recruiting rankings. They were pitiful.
