2012 LB Nick Dawson

Clemson and Auburn also have headhunters as recruiters on their staffs. All this cheating talk is getting old. They both are evaluating talent well and recruiting like crazy. Lance Thompson was supposed to be the headhunter for us but I have yet to see it. He's bringing in solid prospects but he's got to start bringing it in the recruiting game.

not really

No matter how good your assistants are, if the head coach isn't likely to be around much longer, neither will the assistants. Money talks.

Just now started paying attention to this Canadian doctor who was administering HGH, etc. to athletes in 2007. I saw Jose Reyes, Carlos Beltran mentioned, and thought baseball is as bad as cycling. Then I see Tiger. Tiger?!? Since when do golfers use PEDs? I remember Tiger at the '07 US Open in this ridiculous pink shirt, biceps popping the seams on his sleeves. The announcers commented on how jacked he was. Pundits raved about his workout regimen. Men’s Fitness featured him. And in hindsight, he was so clearly juiced up. He was cutting his Viagra with andro and drinking growth hormone protein shakes for breakfast. I remember Braves announcers in the early 2000s taking turns exclaiming about what a great job Javy Lopez and Julio Franco did working out in the offseason. It was the exact same – a willful suspension of disbelief, instead investing in the idea that these athletes are entirely exceptional. Today’s NFL couldn’t exist without our willingness to believe in and perpetuate this fiction.

To anchor it to something outside of sports, for much of the late 2000s, Atlanta Public Schools made outlandish strides in their standardized test scoring. Everyone lauded Bev Hall and APS. Now we know there was rampant cheating going on.

Point of this overlong post: there is no reason to think that Clemson and Auburn's recruiters are so much better than their previous staff. Or anyone else. Any time someone or something is deviating so far from the previous mean, we should be suspicious.

So you don't think both of those staffs can recruit? Some may be getting paid but they are selling the hell out of those programs.

Not what I said at all. Both Clemson and Auburn have great recruiters. I just don't think they're good enough to pull all of the players they're pulling.

clemson landed the #1 mlb# 1olb last season, why would he go there.

It sounds like you have D. Young syndrome. Just because they have good players at the same position already doesn't mean anything. As a program you are always looking to increase your talent.

In most cases the best players dont worry about competition.

Ultimately, players go where they develop the best relationships with the coaches and are most comfortable. It is ultimately the job of the coaches to sell that point to kids. The bottom line is Clemson has a hell of a recruiting staff. They have a great recruiting head coach and some elite recruiting assistants like Steele and Harbison. It's not hard to see Clemson or Auburn for that matter cleaning up on talent.

His dad favors Tennessee so the Vols are in the mix, but Nick favors Clemson and Louisville right now. Dad lives in Louisville but wants his son to be a Vol. We'll see who wins out. A feature on Dawson and his teammate, Germone Hopper (Clemson commit) will be on Rivals100 tomorrow AM from Top Gun Camp in Virginia.

- Mike Farrell from Rivals. Really getting interesting at LB...

Oh shizz.

So now what? Do we make room if Santos, Lewis, and Dawson all wanted to commit tommorrow? Do we push King or Henderson to look elsewhere?

This is all very exciting.

I hope he comes to UT, but not because his dad makes him. I am a kid, but I wouldnt want to force my son towards a school.

*not saying this will happen.

If I had a top college football prospect for a son, I would beat him until Tennessee was his absolute favorite school.

But that's just what I would do.

Plus everyone's mock classes should look a little different, as far as numbers go, since Skeeter said we'll probably take 25 this year.
