Let's go back in time a bit.
We had Herman Lathers coming off another injury at that was it as far as experience.
But then we were lucky enough to have two stud linebacker prospects. True freshman at that

One was more of DE and pass rusher.
The other was a gap filling thumper.

But they were both big, athletic and hungry.
Curt Maggitt and AJ Johnson.

With Herman Lathers they formed a pretty decent LB unit.

Present Day: 2015 We still have Maggitt and he is at his peak effectiveness.
And we have Reeves-Maybin who is one of the better OLB in the conference.

My point in all this? We are concerned about our MLB position, but I say to you we are in much MUCH better condition than we were then, and we turned out just fine at LB.

I think it will be Kirkland. True Freshman.

Bates is still there as a popossibility.

We have so many options this time around.
Most important, the surrounding defensive talent is light years better and more experienced than in 2011.

Have faith you all.

2011?

Where's Rommel?

Shower discipline!

Dooley has some ability as a coach. Had our DC hadn't left for Washington, we might have been in Atlanta that 2012 year.

But he wasn't soft enough in his approach. And he just didn't have a good feel for Tennessee football. That comes with experience. Butch gets that.

So many bad things kept happening.
Darrne Myles
Darick Rogers
Janzen Jackson
all gone!

Herman Lathers didnt play in 2011. Austin Johnson played linebacker and was our leading tackler.

Trust me I misremember all the time. I always liked the way Austin Johnson played so I did remember this one. AJ signed a decent contract and got some playing time at fullback with the Saints last year before being injured.

I disagree, but it doesn't matter if he woulda won the Natty that year. Dooley was not good for UT Football.

Yes it's hindsight, but it's also a fact evidenced by former and current players, anyone around the program, and by how he handled being fired.

I don't think anything about 2011 was "just fine" lol. Terrible, terrible times.

What? We had 3 moral victories and beat Vanderbilt all in the same year. Calls for a locker room celebration if you ask me.

The Vol's stunk at almost every defensive position in 2011, but they have much much better talent in 2015

The natty? Why do I hate the word natty so much. Just makes me angry every time I see it. No offense OrangeDonkey it's not your fault.

I know you are kidding. 2011 was the year we were beat by a WR playing QB for Kentucky. :thud:
Bad times my friend.

Dooley has no ability as a coach. Had our DC stayed we would've probably still been a .500 team. Even with the amount of talent he had he made them mediocre because no one wanted to play for him.
Even though a few bad things happened (Janzen Jackson, Da'Rick, etc.) the cupboard wasn't as bear when he got here as it was when he left. Man, I'm sure glad he's gone.
