I think the 2010 Vols will be a very good team.

Key Factors:

On O good potential:

Stephens will play well for us next year as our starter.

The running game will be strong.

WR will be a strength.

The OL will be rebuilding but I think the young linemen and a freshman will be okay.

On D we'll be a monster:

DEs will be back. And among the best in the nation.

DT rotation will be deep and solid. Montori Hughes could be dominant.

LBs will be fast, athletic, but young. Thing is they will know the system so I think we'll see good production from this group.

The secondary will be the best in the country even without Berry.

STs:

Kicker will be young but has talent

Punter will be new but won't be a young gun.

Returners will be explosive with the young talent that we have now and coming in.

Let's Go Vols!!!!! I can't wait til next week.

I think 2011 is much more likely to be the "08 Bama" year for us than 2010. We will be young at QB but experienced and talented everywhere else on the field.

I do think 2010 will be a better season for us than this year, however.

It is going to be awhile before you see Tennessee play like 08 Bama team.

You have WR as a strength how? We have no one returning that is healthy.

Shula left Saban a lot more talent than Fulmer has left Kiffin. Especially up front.

What gives you any hope that Stephens will be a good qb next year? He can't even challenge Crompton and that speaks volumes about his future potential.

.

WR: Richardson, Teague will be seasoned sophomores: speedy shifty guys

Jones, Moore: Senior leadership and good playmakers

Ambles, Milton: Big time ize, athleticism, and downfield speed.

Shula didn't leave Bama with more talent than Phil left Kiffin. Saban just did a great job developing that talent and mixing in his young players.

Not really. Second year in this system should have him more comfortable in the offense. He's not a terrible QB just was playing in a terrible system.

Keep in mind that prior to 2008 everybody thought Bama was a year away and then they ran off 12 straight wins. It could happen. We definitely have a lot of questions on the OL for 2010 though whereas that was a strength for Bama last year. We'll also be missing a seasoned QB (although JPW isn't exactly a world beater he had started for a couple of years). I like the optimism, although right now I'm focussed on 2009. Should be fun.

JPW was one of the worst QBs I've watched in years. Also played against him in HS and he wasn't that great back then.

I disagree about the talent. Just on the OL Caldwell and Smith. Then you have JPW at QB plus Upchruch and Arenas. Sherreif, Woodall, Coffee, Greenwood that is just off the top of my head. Shula had some decent classes at Alabama.

We have some classes that have more or less disappeared. We do have some talented kids don't get me wrong. But the cards are stacked agaist this staff right off the bat. Then you throw that schedule the next two years at us. It is going to be hard.

We will get better and better I have no doubt. But this is going to take time. You don't win in this league much with Freshmen or Sophomores for that matter. If you have some to sprinkle into a solid core you can. But we are far from solid anywhere other than DB.

We are going to have to learn to be patient. Which is something that Vols fans are not to good at.

Linemen Smith and Caldwell are the only advantages.

JPW= average QB at best.

Upchurch= backup RB

Arenas- is he better than Berry?

Coffee= Hardesty with an OL in front of him.

Woodall- protected by the scheme and do you honestly think he'd start anywhere in our secondary?

No DB is better than Berry.

Upchurch is a backup but that was because of Coffee and Ingram.

Coffee - Hardesty may be fair if Hardesty stays healthy.

Arenas is a all SEC type player.

JPW is head and shoulders above what we have on campus. Come on would you not trade both for him right now?

Woodall is more than solid.

Like I said this is just off the top of my head. I haven't looked at the roster I am sure there are more.

Listen I hate Bama as much as anyone. I hope they never win another game. Hell, I am even going to pull for VT next Saturday. If that tells you anything and I work with the most stupid Tech fan that has ever walked.

But.... We need to quit getting so far ahead of ourselves. We think this is going to be some miracle quick fix. It isn't. It will be long and hard. All I am saying is brace yourself.

Disagree. I believe UT has a chance to be a decent team this year then will drop off to something between 6-6 and 8-4 in 10 before making runs in 11 and 12.

I think the surprise factor plus some experienced players will help this year. Next year new guys and in many cases Fr will replace guys along the OL and TE. Dan Williams, Berry, and McCoy at a minimum will be gone on D. If recruiting goes as well as we hope then guys who are primary back ups may not factor into the 1st team competition.

You must have missed the 2008 Tennessee Vols. Anyway, I'm not a big JPW fan but he was a decent 'game manager'. I don't see anyone as good as 2008 JPW on UT's 2010 roster barring a killer freshman recruit and even then it could be rough.

Glenn Coffee wasn't just successful because of his o-line. He adjusted his attitude and found religion, which for him, anyway, completely turned things around positively for him. He's now with the 49ers and will make the roster as a 4th round pick. Peter King said he has been the most impressive rookie he has seen this season, and that's saying something for a late round pick.

He ran straight downhill and never went down on first contact. Tough runner. I would have taken him over Moreno any day last season.

Vols better be improved in 10---schedule is tougher.
LSU replaces Auburn----at Baton Rouge. Oregon replaces UCLA.

OP, you are so very mistaken. Unlike foolmer, Shula could recruit OL to the team. It will take a while before CLK can dig this program out of that hole.
