Who do you think will be the starting QB in 2010?

Bray...early enrollee, most upside, has mobility, good mechanics, can see the entire field, and maybe with the way Stephens bulked up last offseason, Bray has a mentor who can show him how to bulk up some. BRAY ALL THE WAY!!!

I think it is important that we take a step back and look at the important lesson's that the rest of college football taught us this year. Let’s take a moment and compare UGA and USC.

UGA - Started a guy who has been riding the bench his entire career, named Joe Cox. Georgia had a terrible year and ended up in Shreveport in the Independence Bowl. Making things worse, they have to start a rookie with no experience next year.

USC - Started a true freshmen named Matt Barkley. They also had a terrible year and ended up in San Francisco for the Emerald Bowl. The good news is that they will have a sophomore with a year of experience under his belt leading the team into the 2010 season.

Now, I don't think it's any secret that the Vols are in for a rough year. We have lost a lot of talent and the bad Fulmer recruiting classes are becoming juniors and seniors. Now, for the 2011 season, would you rather be in UGA's position or USC's position? If we are going to have a bad year, why not let Bray get the experience now instead of him making stupid rookie mistakes in the 2011 season?

That's why it's important to start Tyler Bray.

I think it will be Stephens job to lose going into spring practice. If Bray or Simms shows that they deserve it they will get it. Nash needs more time to develop into a starter. Look for him to start competing for the job in 2011 with Bray.

Mobility? 5.45 40 isn't exactly " mobile ". It fits more along the lines of " dead grandmother " speed.

I love Bray's potential as much as the next guy, but if he took off from the pocket, he'd probably run slower than Brett Favre.

What if Barkley had a some serious injury his freshman season, you would be sitting here saying it would be dangerous to start a frosh in Bray. With the o-line problems we're going to have this coming year we better allow Nick Stephens or Matt Simms to take the pounding. IMO we should redshirt both Nash and Bray and let them battle it out with Simms in 2011.

By the way as I said before I believe Simms wins the starting job.

That's a pretty weak comeback debate.

Injuries are a part of football. I completely agree with GoVols876 here, Bray having a year of starting experience will be key in 2011. This year is meaningless, as it'd be a miracle if we ended up 7-5 IMO, so go ahead and let Bray learn.

I'm not saying he's gonna outrun SEC defenders. He seemed pretty mobile in high school and I think that should help in the pocket and on rollouts. He's definitely no statue.

This year is no more 'meaningless' than last year was meaningless. People are still moaning that we got whipped by a top 10 team in our bowl ...even though we were unranked in a 'meaningless' year. This season means alot for recruiting in 2011 and 2012. It means alot for Dooley and Hamilton .

The quarterbacks mean alot and their is no clear cut starter or they wouldn't be all Gruden about it and have 5 on the roster.

1. Nick Stephens - Having spent 4 years in a major program we know very little about this kid. He has a strong arm and is fairly mobile . Plus he has developed in a college offense ..or two. Look for him to start.

Simms - Injuries have hampered his carrier , grades as well. Could he have the genetics?

Nick Lamaison - this kid could be the suprise. Before coming to UT he has never taken a snap from center having operated out of spread systems. MMMMM...wonder between Dooley and Chaney what kind of offense will be run ?? Just ask tebow how easy it is to play under center. Nick may look great in his type of system

Bray - A prototypical pocket passer . Wonderful if Kiffin were still here . Chaney was gonzo over Nance ...and recruited him after Bray was already on campus. If Bray can prove to be mobile ...he may work .

Nance - virtually identical stats to Bray against equally tough competition. Chaney was really wanting him ...and since Chaney is gonna run the O , you have to give this kid a strong look . You will see a 'pro spread ' offense and this big , strong mobile QB could be the guy running it

I think Stephens is the most likely candidate due to his experience, but Bray will give him a run for his money. I wouldn't be surprised to see Bray beat him out though.

I have to say Bray is not as slow as every one thinks he is. I guarantee he runs faster than a 5.4 forty. From what I heard it is much closer to a 5.1-5.0. He just looks slow because he is roughly the size of a baby giraffe. He is confidant in the pocket and does a very good job ezcaping pressure
