I found this online and didn't see it posted anywhere else on the board. Pretty big preview for the upcoming season. Nice write up and pretty good read. Enjoy :)

Tennessee Volunteers 2009 College Football Preview

Warning though, some aspects aren't so positive
why does it require a warning?

the stuff they said that could be taken in a negative light, was largely about last year, and it's not like any of it wasn't true. they were God awful last year.

as for the 09 prediction, it seems about right at least in the arena of the defense should carry the team, the offense will rely on running the ball, and hope the qb play improves enough so that we aren't completely 1 dimensional.

6-6 is a possibility, but if the qb play is simply better than last year, there's no reason 7-5 or 8-4 aren't possible either. this team just can't afford the luxury of making too many mistakes, and with a brand new staff, and questions still lingering after last year, it's not going out on a limb to think there won't be a few hiccups along the way.

I was a little surprised to see the 2008 offense ranked 115th since I was thinking there were 117 CFB teams.

Who could possibly have been worse?

That's a harsh analysis. I think our defense will be significantly better than straight B's, but the grades for offense were pretty accurate. Our RBs can only be as good as the linemen in front of them (McNeil an AA, ha!). And our WRs can only be as good as the QB.

They are projecting a 6-6 record. I have tried my hardest to pick 6 losses with this schedule and I just can't do it. It is a stretch to get 5.

I guess we will see.

6 losses: UF, Bama, UGA, Auburn, SC, and Ole Miss

Win one of these and drop one to UCLA, Memphis, Vandy, or Kentucky and we're still at 6-6.

Ohio and WKU appear to be solid wins, but either could be better than was Wyoming last year.

We should beat Auburn and lose the other 5, but with the upcoming season, I'd really like to see an upset somewhere (ideally either UF, UGA, or Bama who will be double-digit favorites, I think on UGA) even if we're 6-6 at the end.

there were no UT fans who picked them to lose 7 games last year either when checking out that schedule..:)

Well...

There are 120 teams in DI NCAA Football.

According to ESPN...In 2008 Tennessee was ranked 111th in scoring offense (tied with Auburn), and ahead of Tulane, UCF, Virginia, Mississippi State, Army, Washington, Washington State, and..Wyoming.

As far as yarage was concerned, UT was ranked 116th last year, beating out Washington, Vanderbilt, Washington State, and UCF.

Thank you. That still puts our 2008 offense in the top 10... from the bottom. I'm not sure I want to study it anymore.

We will do fine next year. Three years ago we went 5-6 and everyone was talking down on us, but we brought in a new offensive coordinator and won the east two years later. I am not expecting to win the east next year, but we will be competitive with 8 or 9 wins.

If the staff finds a way to pound the rock to set up easy passes this team may surprise some people.

If we ever get down more than two scores we will be in big trouble.

I noticed he had Poole at #2 RB. I would think Brown should fit there... ???

i think last year was a huge and horrible fluke. Our defense was great and our offense sucked balls. Even with, in my opinion, one of the flat worst offenses ive seen in college football we still could have won three more games and been 8-4 if we didnt fumble three snaps, let up on a team we had beat, let a punt get blocked by a mediocre team....the list of incredibly stupid mistakes goes on. We should have been 8-4 last year and i believe we will be better than last year. My prediction is 8-4 or 9-3 in the regular season.

This is a pretty spot on article. Our QBs are nowhere near a C though.

I think we win two of the games against the big 5 you said UTMBA. Ole Miss is so overrated it makes me sick.

I agree with you Emain. no way we go 6-6. I see 8 wins. Somehow we will win 8.

I still think B. Brown is gonna get buried in the depth chart. Poole is gonna be a really good RB for us guys. He has star potential.

Yeah I think the article is a pretty sober take on what CLK has to work with. Unless Brown emerges immediately as a star who can carry the offense, and the DC works his magic on the defense UT may be in trouble.

I thought the preview was fair and pretty accurate for the most part. I disagree with only 6 wins and they had Montori Hughes listed as a RS-Freshman, but other than that I thought it was spot on.
