Here's a table based on 247Sports Combined ratings of instate prospects over the past 15 years; was curious to quantify how the talent level has risen in TN. While the Class of '23 doesn't have as much star power as '22, there's considerable quality depth with more top 500 prospects than any other year.

The 2023 numbers will likely be bumped up. They always start out with less 4 and 5 star guys than they end up with.

Edit: Looks like I’m wrong. In previous years they’d start with less than 35 five stars and then the number would increase as they got senior film in. Looks like they’re no longer doing that

The Nashville area exploding in population since 2000, especially in the range highlighted by OP, will only continue the increase in blue chips. East TN on the whole is on the rise as well. More jobs, more families moving in from all over, more schools, more competition, more coverage, etc etc

31Nashville-Davidson–Murfreesboro, TN Combined Statistical Area 2,118,233 +20.10%
43Memphis-Forrest City, TN-MS-AR Combined Statistical Area 1,344,358+1.23%
52Knoxville-Morristown-Sevierville, TN Combined Statistical Area 1,156,861 +7.41%
59Chattanooga-Cleveland-Dalton, TN-GA Combined Statistical Area 1,000,303 +5.14%
87Johnson City-Kingsport-Bristol, TN-VA Combined Statistical Area 514,899 +1.31%

Doesn’t look like the talent level has risen big time. It has increased though. This list will give the instate lovers ammo to complain about how vital instate recruiting is.
The talent level as a whole may not have jumped in a huge way, but if you compare how much of that talent was east of Nashville over the last 15 years it’s huge, verse most of it being out West. This should benefit UTK.

Work down to quality 3 stars, add analysis for college stats for 2009-2019 classes, and have on my desk by Wednesday. Copy MD/OMP

Pls fix. Thx
