2008 UT vs UF

I know most people around here are a big LG1 fan, but this makes me sick

I don't think people are fans as much as I am simply tolerated.

But aside from that, what's wrong with what I said? Florida has been better than UT the last few years, the last two by a wide margin. So what? There have been and will be periods where UT is a whole lot better than UF.

It is impractical to think that you will always be better than, or even always evenly matched with, a UF or a UGA or an LSU. It just doesn't work that way.

I think 2006 needs to be an exception. I think that was a great game and evenly matched. Even though you all won the NC that year I think you would admit that there were a few teams in the SEC that matched up pretty evenly against you all...

Florida got hugely lucky all year long and, in terms of the score, the UT game was no exception. Now, in terms of how the game unfolded, I do think Florida was significantly better that year than the one point margin of victory suggested.

I don't think the OP was suggesting that we were actually the better team, or that it was a moral victory to be statistically close. He was illustrating that UT could've put itself in a much better position by obeying the maxim that says, "Stress the kicking game. This is where the breaks are made." The better team does that, and it was Florida in this case. If we could've made those plays in the special teams, we would've been in the fight. There is no scenario in which we would have been the better team, but the better team doesn't always win. We could've won that game as the inferior team.

Florida's defense held that OU juggernaut to two TDs.

Florida was a heck of a lot better football team by then too. My stats were simply to show, that UT's defense last year was decent against this powerful O the Gators say they have. Just facts, still doesnt take away the butt whoppin, but I am just sayin...if the defense can show up the same way they did last year, we have a better ST and a decent offense...we could lose a close one or win one.

UT has "bottomed out," IMO, and things will be getting better.

But not this year, and especially not in Gainesville. Its a perfect storm: Florida is outstanding this year, really better than they have ever been; Gators have Heisman front runner and truly a special player and leader in Tebow; Gators have their eye on one goal; Gator defense should be just ridiculously good; Gators lost Harvin, but have so much talent and speed at skill positions its hard to see a big fall off there; Kiffin has given the team and the staff motivation to be as prepared as possible; UT has unresolvable issues on offense, especially QB and offensive line, both of which play into Gator strengths this year.

It isn't going to be close.

But, again, I say that UT embarks on an upswing this year and the year after, with particular emphasis on 2011 once a QB can be brought in and given some experience.

But not this year.

So I was thinking about the game, and now I'm pissed. It has ruined my day and practically destroyed the 4th of July, not to mention America. It's as if that game single-handedly caused the end of capitalism and the march towards socialism and nanny-states in the 21st century. Everyone enjoy travelling on the 4th in your electric 27.5 horsepower golf cart with doors while grilling out non-dairy cheese covered soy burgers, frying some tofu kabobs, and shooting off environmentally friendly fireworks (see: black snake fireworks). The end is nigh.

people are throwing out stats, so i'll throw out a couple.

florida had no turnovers.
florida punted once.

now, if a defense can't get an offense to turn the ball over or punt more than one time total in a football game......then, the rest of the stats can be flushed down the toilet.

the yardage totals are misleading. tennessee's defense had trouble stopping florida all day. in addition, the florida offense post lsu was completely different than the florida offense pre lsu.
