I found this pretty interesting. How our special teams really messed up a lot. We held this powerful team to quite astonishing stats. 1st column in stats is UF second is UT

<TABLE class=linescore cellSpacing=0 sizset="130" sizcache="4"><TBODY sizset="130" sizcache="4"><TR><TD class=team colSpan=2></TD><TD class=period>1</TD><TD class=period>2</TD><TD class=period>3</TD><TD class=period>4</TD><TD class=total>T</TD></TR><TR sizset="130" sizcache="4"><TD style="TEXT-ALIGN: right">#4</TD><TD class=team sizset="130" sizcache="4">FLA (3-0)</TD><TD>17</TD><TD>3</TD><TD>7</TD><TD>3</TD><TD class=ts>30</TD></TR><TR sizset="131" sizcache="4"><TD style="TEXT-ALIGN: right"></TD><TD class=team sizset="131" sizcache="4">TENN (1-2)</TD><TD>0</TD><TD>0</TD><TD>0</TD><TD>6</TD><TD class=ts>6

Penalty yards and Special Teams hurt us. You have a decent offense, and a good Special teams.... If it can be like this for this upcoming year...we take them.

I agree, Special teams and penalties at the wrong time hurt the Vols bigtime last year. Florida was ripe for the taking early on last year, but was completely different team in the later half of their schedule.

Florida was a helluva lot better football team that UT last year. What you forget about your stats is that Floridfa's game plan reacted to what had happened, just as yours did. Florida had no need to open things up and early on found itself content to play the game between the 20's, which is essentially what happened.

The game could have played out in any number of styles, but Florida was clearly and by a wide margin the better team and would have won by a significant score no matter what.

That is all.

Hard to get alot of hards rushing when we turn the ball over twice in the first quarter and leave them almost nothing left over to get a TD.

Agreed. It will take a few years (for talent to catch up) to beat you guys IMO.

Thank you. I don't see why people feel the need to engage in some sort of tortured reasoning to come up with a way that the game was really "closer" than it was. Its not a moral indictment of your school, your team, or your fans to say that Florida was better. It won't always be. But it has been for the last few years. It will change over time.

If you can get to the 1 yard line a few times but end up with no points, you will look good stat-wise, but you'll never win a game. UF could have put up 60 if they would have wanted. But, hey, at least we tried a 2-point conversion....

Agree. I was at the game and the beat down was far worse than the score or stats.

We sure are fortunate to have you here to set us straight.

...I agree.

As to statistics, I always liked the Disraeli quote, "there are three kinds of lies... lies, damned lies, and statistics."

It always seems that when we lose we look at stats more so than when we win...maybe that is just human nature and rationalization.

Florida (as I feel my stomach heave) was a superior team last season and I expect the same in 09. Although I think/hope the VOLS will be considerably more competitive.

The game we should have won, still sticks in my craw, and would have had a major impact, at least on Tenn. program and CPF's future, was the 06 Fla. game. But the past is the past...looking forward to a Tennessee Orange brighter future.

GO VOLS

Really? Stats show Tennessee's defense was actually better than Florida's in 08. Please rephrase and try again.

Don't use stats...use your eyes. Do you really believe Tennessee had a better defensive unit than Florida?

Guys, there are no "moral victories" in college football. I don't care if we had a higher (statistically) ranked defense last year. It's all about whether you win or lose the game.
