East...

Tenn- We have more balance than any other team in my opinion. I like our mix of young talent and veteran leadership to go with a little shake up with the offensive scheme. Offense could be top 2-3 in SEC. Defense could be top 3-5 if they stay healthy esp on the line.

Georgia- overrated big time. Beating a weak Hawaii team let this team become way too hyped. Stafford hasn't proven anything yet. There are no playmakers outside of Moreno. Maybe Massaquoi but hes not all world or anything. O-line is very suspect and young. They are thin and young at LB and they actually have a brutal schedule this year (no more WCU and Troy lol)

Florida- Loads of playmakers but still most of them unproven outside of Tebow and Harvin(who has constant health issues). Losing WR Caldwell hurts. O-line is suspect as well as the run game (who is the go to RB?). The defense is still young and they just lost 2 DB's fo the year one of them a starter. Tebow cannot do it all.

SC- They are still South Carolina. The QB situation looks grim, and they don't have many playmakers at all. Their defense looks to be strong and will keep them in games with the big guys, but mistakes lack of experience and overall talent on the offensive side will cost them.

UK-Might not be as bad as some might expect after losing some playmerks but they are still Kentucky.

Vandy- No need to discuss

West...

LSU- They are in trouble at the QB position. O-line looks to be pretty good. Run game looks good with K Williams but no depth at that position. Losing Hester hurts. Defense will be good up front as usual but they lost some experience at LB and a lot in the secondary. Secondary could be a problem and Les Miles gutsy calls will come back to bite him at least once this year.

Auburn- Similar to Tennessee in that they have a lot of potential to be good and have new off scheme. They don't have experience at QB but he is talented. Don't have flashy playmakers but solid ones who will do fine. O-line looks pretty good and RB Lester is solid. Defense is great as usual, thin at Safety but overall they should be good.

Alabama- Scares me because they could be very good. Great recruits coming in, and experience. They are solid at almost every position but not great at any specific one. WR could be a little drop off with losses but they have some studs coming in. JP Wilson has experience but is not a gamebreaker. Loss of J Johns hurts but defense looks to be improved. Saban is a good coach. I wouldn't want to play them in November.

Ole Miss- Orgeron was a terrible coach but he did recruit some talented players. Return almost everybody on offense and will feature hs-all american and Texas transfer J Snead at QB. Experienced playmakers in Hodge, Wallace, McCluster. O-line will be very good and experienced with Oher and company. And add 5 star RB Enrique Davis who is ready to play and they look good. Defense returns everybody as well after being incredibly young last year. Greg Hardy is an phenominal player at DE and P Jerry is a force inside. They are still a little young but will be a lot better after playing together for a year. Oh and most importantly Houston Nutt will make a huge difference. They finally have a decent coach to develop all that talent that Orgeron brought in. They are my sleeper team in the SEC.

Miss St- Will be pretty good again this year. They lost some key guys on defense (T Brown) and still don't have any breakout playmakers but decent ones and experience. O-line will be pretty decent and still have 240 lb brusier RB Dixon. QB play should be somewhat improved. Defense will be very good and you have to love their heart. Return 8 starters and only big loss was Brown at DE. Pegues is quite the talent. Croom is a good guy and has done a great job with that program. I think they make a bowl again this year but might not pull as many big upsets. Probably 7 wins or so.

Arkansas- Will be a rough year. Lost a lot of players. New head coach although a good one in Petrino. Quaterback is not very good. This will be a learning year. Mallett will help next year.

Bottom line I think Tennessee, Alabama, Ole Miss and Auburn have big potential to surprise. I think Georgia will dissappoint, and Florida will be good but injuries, young defense, questions with RB might cost them some. LSU lost a lot of key guys and leadership. No QB, but still good, just not like last year. Ole Miss will make a bowl this year. Mississippi State and SC will be decent SEC teams and UK might but probably not. Vandy and Arkansas will struggle big time.

Two of these four teams will play in the SECC game. Tennessee, Florida, Auburn, Alabama. One will win it. Why not us?

I can't think of a single better way to herald in the Clawson era than to defeat Alabama in the SECCG. :dance2::rock:

Good accessment. I definitely agree with you on the Bammers. I think they are going to be the sleeper team this year that is better than most folks give them credit for. Still, we must exact our revenge!

UGA is overrated, yes- but they are still a very dangerous team when they arn't playing us. :) IF they can live up to all the hype they are getting, they will still be the team to beat. Plus, we all know they are gunning for us hard this year- after back to back embarassments we've handed them lately.

I agree with most of what you posted, except you clearly are not being as objective with Tennessee as with otherteams. Not saying Tennessee doesn't have a chance, but you make it sound like we should roll.

Nice agreed about georgia. They may be good but everyone will be hunting for em this next year. Florida will not loose to them again! We need to beat florida to have a shot though. hopefully we can pull it out.
GO VOLS BABY!!!!!!!!

Yes haha. Clearly. I was most objective with the teams most people are picking to do well because they needed to have their weaknesses pointed out. The teams like Florida, Georgia, LSU obviously have some very big strengths we all know about, but also some very big weaknesses unknown to some. I think teams like UT, Auburn, and Alabama have more potential this year because they do not have a real defined weakness. They might not be great at anything like the above temas but are more solid all around. I do not think UT is "weak" at any position this year except maybe punter for the first 5 games lol. It's mostly a matter of depth, staying healthy, and our offense and QB adjusting to Clawson. Whereas Florida has major concerns in the secondary, and finding a run game other than Tebow. They also lost their best WR Caldwell. LSU has major QB concerns(a lot more than us). LSU also has major holes in the secondary, and no real run game after losing Hester. Although K Williams should do ok he just hasn't proven it. Georgia has concerns with the O-line and finding a playmaker other than Moreno. Can't throw to Massaquoi all day. They also are young at LB and that spells trouble especially after we ran for nearly 200 yards on them last year.

I can't see us getting by Florida, Georgia and Auburn. Bama is just not there yet in the West but they will be. Lsu still has the talent to finish first in the West.

i agree with pretty much most of what csheaton said. bama is def a sleeper, but hopefully we get em pretty good at neyland. basically my take is this: if we beat florida, we are in the driver's seat; this is because there is no way georgia is gonna pull off victories against us AND florida, i just dont see that happening. they will lose to one of us.
the west for me is so hard to predict. one would naturally assume that LSU is the favorite to win the west...but hooooold on, auburn and bama might make a run for it too. i just believe if....no, WHEN....we make the seccg, our best bet is bama or lsu. auburn has always found a way to beat us, so i def dont wanna play em come decemeber in atlanta

What year is this?

This is the marvelous thing about preseason. Forget the fact that we are one injury away from depletion on the D line and that we are breaking in a new quarterback....

Sure with a few lucky breaks UT can sneak up on a few people, but I have to say that Florida and Georgia look better on paper than we do.

To put it in concise terms, for UT to win the East they will have to play a perfectly this year. Even then, I don't see it happening.

I agree with the Ole Miss part. Ole Miss will shock people this year.

I'm making no SEC CG predictions this year. This is the SEC. Go Vols.

Nice assessment. Georgia is definitely overated and so is Stafford.

I think the east will come down to UT and Florida.

While Georgia is the most overrated team in the SEC, Tennessee is probably the most underrated this year. I look for a surprise.
