it says that Hamga's AAU coach has a daughter at UT and also Hamga had originally committed to Iowa so u gotta think that he has a relationship with Tyler Smith

Add Tyler Zeller to that list. Pearl was reportedly "oogling" over his performance over the weekend at the Kingwood Classic. He had Hamga riding pine as his team, Indiana Elite, won the championship

I've seen Tyler Zeller play, and I was not impressed at all. He's a twig out there (6'10", 190 lbs), and has no post presence. The only thing he has going for him is a mid-range jumper. It would be a mistake to offer him a scholarship.

Personally, I'd trust teams like Kansas/KY/Illinois/Kentucky/Arizona St. etc. who are recruiting him :p

Not to mention he said Bruce Pearl saw him recently and you probably haven't seen him as recent as Pearl. Sure he's underweight but it's not like its impossible to add some bulk.

Out of all those schools you say are recruiting him, none have offered Zeller a scholarship. I saw Zeller play back in January, and I doubt he's improved that much in the last 3 1/2 months. He didn't even lead his Washington Hatchets high school team to the regional finals of class 3A in Indiana. If you're not familiar with Indiana high school basketball, you have to win sectionals, regionals, then semi-state to make it to state-- so Washington didn't even make it close to state.

I don't know why we're debating this, because Tennessee won't offer him... not unless Pearl gets really desparate, which I don't think he will with the talent in the class of 2008. Zeller would be a waste of a scholarship. He can't compete in the SEC, but I'd say he's a good mid-major prospect.

I'm not saying we should try to get him. But I don't think he even had 1 mid-major school listed so thats highly unlikely.

I was just basing it on one of the OP that said Pearl was "oogling" over his performance in the Kingwood Classic or whatever last week. Obviously he had a good tournament, so it could have been just one really lucky and well played tournament by him or he could have improved.

Many of the coaches that watched Zeller this weekend offered him during or after the tourney. There is a reason that he was playing over teammate Beas Hamga. His stock is about to make a huge jump.

It would be a major mistake for Bruce Pearl to offer Tyler Zeller a scholarship.

He is good enough to take the majority of the minutes in a game at the center spot on his AAU team. Oh yea and his back up is Hamga. Im pretty sure that says something about how good this kid is.

sounds like tclowers has a dislike for Zeller

His brother, Luke, was much more highly-regarded back in 2005. He went to Notre Dame, and hasn't done jack. They play for Washington HS in southern Indiana, and I know from experience the competition they're up against. Trust me, they are both overrated.

Luke average 3.4 ppg and 3.1 rpg as a freshman. As a sophomore, he averaged 3.8 ppg and 2.2 rpg. His brother, Tyler, is just a slimmer and less physical version of Luke.

Maybe Hamga and the coach had a "disagreement", or something else that we know nothing about. You know nothing about how good Zeller is, just what you read.

yea its not the best, but that one shot of him getting down court like a guard at 6'10, and i can see he has a good low post game but i just dont know if he could be effective in the SEC at that wieght

You also have to factor in that he was doing that against Jasper, an undersized team that had a 9-12 record this past season.

cant argue with that, i would much rather have Jurick or Hamga than Zeller, there's just no reason a guy should weigh less than 200 pounds at the height of 6'10

Hopefully UT will get a commit from Jurick this week. Will Pearl go after Hamga if Jurick commits?

probably not as hard but im sure he would still have an offer on the table for him if we cant sign another guard, because that could make us deeper in the paint
