haha, thanks. I sometimes wonder how many ppl get what it refers to.

"Hurd....takes the handoff and plows his way into a thick pile of crimson........did he make it?.......................he made it."

I wish he could come back for one game. Like, maybe an undefeated vs undefeated for the 3rd Saturday in Oct? Wishful thinking.

I started listening to Vol football and basketball games in the late 70's...

To this day, I get chill bumps hearing his voice...

I don't view the '03 team that way. UF wasn't that good and that Bama team was horrible. The Miami win was great but that's about it for that team.

Yea that Bama team went 4-9 and was not good. It's weird to think of Bama as a automatic win. But with Fulmer, it pretty much was.

Two weeks later, Florida would lose to Ole Miss giving Florida its 4th home loss under Ron Zook in a year and a half. Spurrier had lost 5 home games in 12 years.

And so, fireronzook.com was born.

Was this the first fire a head coach website?

That team was a lot of fun, with a lot of heart. The exception being the UGA game, where they simply quit after the fumble before the half and then a tipped ball interception early in the second half. Probably top 3 worst Neyland experiences ever.

This^ all day long

My Dad still listens to the radio broadcast even when watching away games on TV.

It's improved over the years but back then the radio feed was sometimes 10 seconds ahead of the TV and he would always know what was happening before everyone else because he has his headset on.

He tries not to react so as not to spoil it for others, but when Casey was under center on that last snap before half Dad couldn't hold it in, lol. There was about 10 seconds of the rest of us going "no way, no way..." before we joined him in the celebration. :)

Eh. They still reached #8 in the BCS prior to the bowl games. Had it been like just 2-3 years later - when the BCS changed from 4 games (3 games and a championship) to 5 games (4 games and a championship) - that team would have gotten an at-large bid to a BCS bowl.

(...granted, then, that would have also gotten either Miami(OH) or Washington State a BCS bowl bid also)

Although, if the SEC had used the current three-way tiebreaker model (the second-to-last tiebreaker in the East is combined conference win-loss records of West teams played) instead of the one they used then (highest BCS ranking)...Florida would have actually played LSU in the SEC Championship that year. :ermm:

Florida (played LSU, Ole Miss, Arkansas) - 18-6

Georgia (played Auburn, Alabama, LSU) - 14-10

Tennessee (played Alabama, Auburn, Mississippi State) - 8-16

That was a boring game until that hail marry. 12pm kickoff sucks especially for us west coast Vols fan. 9am kickoff is no fun, especially for a college kid at the time who partied the night before. Why was this game at 12pm? Who played the 330pm game?

LSU - Georgia , and they would rematch in the SEC champ game.

We should of beat Florida 41-10 or so. We were so vanilla and lame in our offensive scheme.

Clausen gets disrespected because Florida & Alabama were not top 5 teams when he beat them.
Much the same way Spurrier gets credit for dominating the SEC from 94-00, while Tennessee's wins from the EXACT SAME period of time are largely discounted due to a "weak" SEC.

Uhh, what? Florida was ranked 2nd in the nation on Dec. 1st, 2001 when Tennessee beat Florida 34-32 in Gainesville. That was also Spurrier's last home game.

Because the SEC E was UT & UF during that period... and UT's record vs. UF during that stretch was 1-6.

UT was very, very good in the 90's. Unfortunately, UF was a little better.

I put 94-00, but I meant to put 94-99. Which still wouldn't include 2001. Hardly anyone disrespects that win.
However, i still feel the same way. Since Spurrier only dominated a one team league he wasn't so great. Or he was just slightly greater than the other one team in the league at that time.
Furthermore, both UT & UF fell victim to the real juggernaut of that time period (94-99). That team of course was Nebraska.

...but you said that Clausen didn't beat Florida or Alabama when they were ranked in the top 5? Clausen only played against Florida from '01-'03.

We have more than paid for that. Also, notice how they only brought 3 rushers... Shoop says not again.

You always drop 8 there, maybe even 9, especially with our talent on the Dline. 4th & 14 is a lot different than 4th & 50 in an end of game situation.
