Aj sucks
Henry ran over them
Shows gators were in their heads
Three games later enter the iceman

Clausen was the heir apparent as a true FR. But his arm was injured for that game from too many throwing reps, iirc. I remember that we were ready and handled Alex Brown well. We win with Clausen. We win if we dont come away with only 12 points on six red zone trips: four field goals and a turnover. Three field goals came while they were inside the five-yard line, and two came inside the one!!! We win if we don't hand Lito Sheppard a golden t3rd. We win (probably, it was 3rd dn) if the refs dont rob us on the pass breakup.

But, it's Florida, so that's what we do!

For all the crying that is done regarding the Tennessee-Florida game, this is the one game I will acknowledge Tennessee should have won.

Having said that, the reason has nothing to do with Gaffney.

Tennessee ran over, around, and through Florida all game long and settled for field goals the whole game.

I have never seen a game before or since where a team so thoroughly dominated the line of scrimmage and could not get in the end zone.

I find it strange that people give Clausen so much credit for the UF win in 2001.
Why do you find it strange?
I was at that game and thought he played extremely well. Managed the offense and was 17/25 passing.
Florida could not stop Travis Stephens so the Vols went ground attack.
It was a nail biter at the end though.

Vols failed to convert a 3rd and 2 at midfield. If they pick that up, game was over.

This.

Also people act like we automatically win if that catch is correctly called incomplete, but it was only 2nd down and goal from the 3 and they were only down a FG.

Agree. Martin was a below average QB. Clausen definitely played better. But if Stephens doesn’t have the game of his life, we lose.
Travis Stephens was incredible that game. The Oline was also very good. The DLine was outstanding that game as well. If that game had replay available we would’ve forced a lot of turnovers that were called incomplete passes. Grossman took some big shots that evening.

But it also wasn't a catch...so yeah that too

Gaffney absolutely didn’t catch that ball. I have zero doubt of that. But you all were going to score anyway. At that point we couldn’t stop you and, I agree, kicking FGs is what did UT in for the most part.

Tennessee should have had a 7 game win streak from 98-04. 99 and 00 were very winnable. As always Fulmer coached not to lose. I guess we fell apart in 02 so maybe 6 out of 7. I remember the 05 game being close for Meyers first year too. Florida was better than us from 06-13. We could have easily had another 4 game streak from 14-17 but thanks to Butch we only came away with 1 win. We should be have close to 10 wins since 98 and this would still be considered a rivalry game. Terrible game day coaching has only netted us 4 wins after 98 and Florida continues to be a mental struggle.

Maybe every time Heupel goes for it on 4th and long instead of kicking field goals we should remember Florida 2000 and try not to complain

I'm interested to see how Heupel coaches when there is something on the line (SEC E, Major Bowl, etc.). It's one thing when you're 7-5/ 6-6 type team (why not go for it all the time?) I hope he stays aggressive.

I like the aggressiveness in general. There are times you have to take FGs but we all saw Bama in the championship game. If you hit the red zone 4 or 5 times and you’re settling for FGs every time then you’re asking for trouble.

The 2000 Florida still kills me we should’ve won it but messed around and kicked FG’s instead of Touchdowns and no that wasn’t a catch by Gaffney but that was on 2nd down best I remember and at worst they kick the chip shot FG there and we go to overtime. One of Phil’s worst losses he completely blew that game. Travis Henry ran all over Florida but it was all for naught in the end.

14&15 should definitely have been wins, even 05 damn punting or was that the 06 game, and wasn't one called back...not sure if that was 05 or 06

I vividly remember Travis Henry tripping over our 20 yard line with nothing but green grass between him and the south end zone checkerboards.

That was a bizarre game.
