Tennessee has played 40 games since CBJ took over on the hill. The first twenty games, as a whole, were arguably subpar. The following twenty, however, have been very strong.

----------------------------------------
Overall record: 15-5 (.750)

Vs. OOC opponents (including bowls): 7-1 (.875)

Vs. OOC Power 5 opponents (including bowls): 3-1 (.750)

Vs. All Power 5 opponents (OOC & SEC): 11-5 (.688)

@ Neyland Stadium: 7-3 (.700)

On road + neutral site (including bowls): 8-2 (.800)

Last 10 games: 9-1 (.900)

Forget all of this garbage and throw Kamara 10 screen passes a game, and we'll be good. It's almost always a first down.

Sounds pretty dang good. Actually, considering the cluster Butch inherited, it is pretty good. But let's keep things in perspective. Taking the first20/last20 allows two instances of the early-gauntlet in the first 20, while the 2nd twenty has two instances of the "patsy" portion of our yearly front loaded schedule.

It's a little bit like saying, "In 2015, Tennessee was a terrible 3-4 at one point, then went on an incredible 6 game winning streak". Sounds pretty awesome to outsiders. But those of us on the "inside" know that all our tough games outside the bowl were early season, and our schedule became far easier at the end.

Sub-par? What did you expect him to do with the talent and depth he had on the roster? Win 7, 8, or 9 games a year?

Nope. The first 20 were well below .500 (8-12). I get why, but on paper it was sub-par; especially in contrast to the next 20. That's all I was getting at.

This is college football. Nobody plays that many quality opponents anyways.

I mean folks are talking about Houston as a playoff team and they're only playing 2 power 5 teams all season.

And don't forget, beating nobodies was hard for Tennessee just a few years ago.

You shouldn't poo-poo such a turnaround.

You've gone all schizo here recently D4H. In one thread Jones is a stupid bum who is the reason why we lose games....and here in another he's orchestrated an impressive turnaround that shouldn't be poo-pooed. What gives?

I will not deny that he has vastly improved the program. He has done very well in that regard. I still have my doubts, however, that he will ever take it to the top level. That is, the step beyond regularly expecting 8-9 wins and perpetual SEC east relevance. Those are far better than we've seen recently, don't get me wrong, but I remain skeptical as to whether or not Jones is a real championship caliber head coach.

Like it or lump it...barring colossal collapse, Butch will get 2 more games each against (FL, GA, Bama) to improve that record.

And we are 3-1 against them .. what else do u want ? 20 games is not even 2 seasons. If you play in SEC, do u want more than 2 power 5 OOC guys a season ? No. Quit being a dick.
