C.J. Beathard passed 13-23 for 145 yds 2 TDs and 1 Int in the 45-28 drubbing Iowa got from us at the end of the 2014 season. He recently appeared on stage with his country music singing brother. This is the story and the song has been out for a while so SIAP but it was the first time I'd heard it.

IOWA CITY — Maybe C.J. Beathard is going into the family business when he leaves Iowa after his senior year.

Well, at least that’s the joke he made Tuesday after appearing alongside his brother, country music performer Tucker Beathard, at the Back Porch Revival concert at Kinnick Stadium on Saturday.

“I had a lot of phone calls — a lot of music labels trying to hit me up,” Beathard said, before adding, “No, I’m kidding.”

Tucker’s lead single as an up-and-coming country act has been “Rock On,” but he also has a song out called “20-10 Tennessee” and features Tucker singing a song from the perspective of a man watching a Tennessee Volunteers football game while calling a potential (or former) girlfriend and leaving her a voicemail.

The song’s subject is rooting for the Volunteers, and the song was written by Tucker and he and C.J.’s dad, Casey. Despite the title and rooting interest in the song, C.J. laughed off any notion of giving his brother grief for writing a song about a football team that isn’t Iowa.

Didn't have high hopes for this but it's actually good.

Last time I was through Portland, Ore, I didn't get the impression that country music was a big thing up there. :)

I take that back. I had to go to a conference in Bend. There was a cast party afterwards (lots of state politicians) and I was the only southerner there. One of the locals was playing a guitar and he made an attempt to play and sing Dixie as a salute. As the night went on the party got a bit rowdy and I won't ever forget the police showing up to tell us to hold it down a bit. The state attorney general assured the policemen we'd do our best. :)

Don't have a huge issue with the lyrics, but the song is very dirge-y. Would be better if it were a little more upbeat, a little more old-school country, and with Tennessee football excerpts sprinkled in.

Just moved back to Knoxville from Bend. That place is crazy but it's a good time!!!!

I don't know much about music at all but the song came across to me a bit like Cheyenne by George Strait.

I agree though...some Tennessee football excerpts would've really been nice in between choruses.

Oh, yeah, there are a lot of country music fans up this way. Not my cup o' tea, but to each his own.

I always make my wife playlists for her 45 min drive to work, might just sneak this one in there, see what she says.

Been following him for a while now and seen him twice. Was actually the first song I ever heard of his. He doesnt have a bad one imo. The Beatherd family has a wide range of talent
