2 weak links

And Inge is probably the smartest asst coach on the staff and the players love him. Freshman Perlotte looked good in limited snaps again today. Got a sack too.

Inge landed Harmon and Perlotte in 25, his first class at UT. Both Bluechips.

Then in 2026 class he did even better, landing two LBs ranked #74 and #75 overall in the class. Both top100 players, both chose us over Bama, UGA etc just like Harmon and Perlotte before them.

We will be better at LB next year, and should be even better in 2027. Coach Inge isnt going anywhere. Nobody on the defense staff is IMO. Our defense sucks because we have been without BOTH STARTING CORNERS ALL YEAR.

People are so dumb. Griping like crazy after a blowout win on the road in the SEC. Some people don't want to be happy

Come on man, don’t go making perfect rational sense and ruin this for me!😂😂😂

Seriously, just kidding. I 100% agree with your takes for what is worth.

We need faster linebackers and our safeties are just not SEC caliber, as much as it pains me to say. I will admit that I’ve never been a fan of our guys being coached to play the receiver’s hands instead of turning around for the ball. We’re not the only ones who do that though.
Our 2 best DB’s were transfers( MCcoy-Hood)by someone other than Banks/Martinez

No doubt with them 2 at corner were a different D. We are for sure young overall. But there are things that can be corrected. Continually taking bad angles and bad open field tackling is all discipline, want to and playing smart. Coaches have to be able to correct a lot of that. On another area there were 2 times if our edge rusher keeps coming he would have destroyed the quarterback. For some reason I cannot figure out he slammed on the brakes, and the quarterback was looking away from him. WTH was that! GBO
Making the freshman throw from pocket and not giving lanes to run. setting the edge

With all the Head Coaches fired this year we should definitely do some window shopping for defensive/special teams coaching upgrades.

I think we can get more out of our secondary and LBs. Also, we need a PK whisperer coach!

Do Martinez and Inge get replaced end of year? If not Josh has accepted complacency imo.
Banks should be first before those two. He is definitely the weak link. He is defensive coordinator AND he coaches safeties the weakest part of our team. He doesn’t recruit good safeties. He can go back to Penn State or wherever. Probably a good dude just not SEC coordinator material

Yep all the things you mentioned (BAD angles/tackling/discipline)are part of being a more mature athlete. Vanderbilt is the oldest team on average in SEC, do they have great athletes. IMO no, BUT they have been around the block they take good angles, tackle in open field etc. It matters, Lea went out and got mature athletes all around and when they got a trifecta of 3 from New Mexico's best players, Diego who everyone knows but one of the others caught a 60+ yard TD this weekend. Hopefully the better angles and open field can progressively get better for our young guys. If we can eke out a win vs OU and get some extra reps vs New Mexico these young guys can grow we only hope and is our only hope for the D, McCoy not coming back, Gibson out till next year..

Do you think the defensive staff suddenly forgot everything they knew?
We were in the dam cfp last year because of our d. It's the same staff.
We were a Playoff team last year because of our Defensive line. We played teams that were able to stop our defensive line most of the game. Those teams started using motion and effecting the eyes of our LB's and Secondary it was open season.

Somebody needs to have a crash course in tackling. Too often I see the defense just run into the ball carrier and assume he is going down. Highlight reel hits don't mean jack if the guy doesn't hit the turf as a result. Grab hold of the guy and let your team mates try and punch the ball out. But dang, at least grab hold and hang on.

Yeah folks aren’t comprehending that we don’t have the depth we had last year. It’s that simple.

I still want a new d coordinator tho.
