Looks like UT has signed another TE in addition to Brandon Warren:

Rocky Top Talk :: Recruiting Board Rolling Update - TEs and OLs

Dangerously uninformed opinion: Maryville's Aaron Douglas is Rivals' #2 ranked player in the sate of Tennessee, a top 10 TE nationally, and he's a Vol. And that's good, because he's probably the only tight end we'll sign this year. Yeah, but how many TEs do we need to sign? you might ask, but remember Cutcliffe's new emphasis on the two-tight sets. Douglas will give us three scholarship tight ends on the roster in '08 by my count -- which is probably wrong -- and that doesn't seem to be enough for a TE-dependent offense. Plus, if Douglass' listed 40 time is right (4.9), he's pretty slow for a pass-catching TE, so he might just be a third tackle (or actually make the move to tackle). Keep your fingers crossed on the Brandon Warren thing, but it doesn't look like it's happening this year.

Sounds like UT is moving away from the 3 WR set, to a 2 TE 2 WR set. Whats everyone's opinion?

On a sidebar, interesting article on how Gibbs uses the H-Back Washington Redskins: H-back

Gibbs uses the tight end almost exclusively as an extra blocker on the offensive line, a role that seems to fit both Rasby and Royal. The H-back, meanwhile, is asked to do any number of things from any number of locations on the field. He's got to be a blocker, he's got to be a pass protector and he's got to be able to run routes. It's a unique position.

The H-back can line up in the backfield, on the line or -- as is often the case -- is put into motion. On one play, he may be asked to serve as lead blocker for tailback Clinton Portis. The next, he may be sprinting 15 yards downfield to catch a pass. Assistant head coach for offense Joe Bugel said, "It's a tough position to play, you have to be super, super smart, and you have to have some athletic ability."

The Redskins believe they have several players who fit that mold and they likely would use Winslow Jr. there if they select him in the draft. It's totally different from any other position because they have to know pretty much every other position on the field.
They can line up at any position at any given time and be asked to run whatever they want to run. In a sense, you have to know as much as the quarterback.

i say 2 TE's and 2 WR's just because we're thin at WR

I'd personally like to see B. Cottam start over Brown.

Isn't asking a preference between 2 TEs or 3 WRs kind of like asking if you prefer to wear boots or wing tips? At different times, both are approrpiate, but at the wrong time both are a really bad idea.

Most teams have a base formation they work out of. For years UT used 3 WR 1 FB 1 RB. Last year 1 TE 3 WR. This year and probably the next few 2 WR 2 TE.
That's the question which of those do you prefer to see most of the time?

uh...wing tips are never a good idea.....but good point regardless.

personnel, ours and the opponents, should play in the decision.
