(2) Thunder vs. (3) Lakers

I don't put all blame on Kobe, but he had lots of uncharacteristic mistakes that may have been the sole reason for this team losing two games in this series. In his defense, Bynum and Gasol were both inconsistent in this series. Add that to a weak bench and no productivity at the point guard position, and I think Kobe had to take the burden for a lot of the shots.

Pretty good summary. Kobe didn't play great, but to say he cost em the series is just ridiculous.

At some point Bryant's career flipped from competing against the other team on the floor to competing against the ghosts of Kareem and Michael Jordan. He has not handled that phase of his career very well.

Jordan was generally exactly as much of a ball hog as his team needed him to be. Kobe is tone deaf about it.

This.

A perfect explanation. Kobe goes outside of the offense and takes silly shots all the time.

Same thing with Melo, ball stopping, highly contested 18 foot jumpers is not a recipe for success.

I can't wait until the Thunder actually go against a team that has the depth and youth to run with them. The Spurs will get them in six games.

This is going to be a good series. I think San Antonio is the better team, but if OKC can avoid the youthful mistakes they tend to make, they could make short work of the Spurs.

I am glad Golden does not play for the Lakers. If he had the numbers Sessions and Blake had, this website would be ready to crucify him.

Also what happened to Bynum?

OKC's best effort will be required to win the series. Nobody is going to make short work of the Spurs.

That. One of the talking heads on ESPN yesterday effectively said the only hope of beating San Antonio is rolling up your sleeves and getting ready to score a crap ton of points.

Yeah, that's basically what I'm saying.

OKC looked like they could go on a 20-5 run at any time against LA, they just couldn't follow through. They'd get 8 straight points, and then get complacent and lazy. They have to go full throttle against San Anton to have a chance.

I'm ready for the Mike Brown experiment to be over. Actually, I never really accepted it.

Same here brother. This is the worst we've ever looked offensively. Kobe's ran the triangle his entire career. Why couldn't we use Brown's D and Phil's triangle?

Seriously...you watch Kobe Bryant play...he is by far one of the worst criers in the league.

This is a terrible argument. The Thunder are known for the flops. Especially James Harden. And did you not watch Westbrook the entire series? Didn't he get two techs for crying like a child? Kobe got one too, for defending that crap flagrant call against Metta..

You're too mad about the Lakers catching a grade A ass-whuppin in the second round to make a reasonable comment.

Lakers didn't close. We should have been up 3-1, there was only one ass-whuppin there brother. Bynum never got into position, and Pau played better, but was a ghost in the fourth. Kobe passed these guys the ball, if they don't take the shot who's fault is it?

The lakers lost this series as a TEAM y'all, no one players did it for them. They were un-prepared and played a short (time wise) series to a young team. We were in it, had a chance to win, and couldn't close. OKC deserved the series because they made it when it counted. With some off season moves, LA will be back in it. We've always made major moves, it's about time for another. Need to improve our back court, and our depth. Question is, how long is Harden going to accept coming off the bench? Could get interesting in OKC..

42 points and zero assists tells you that a big part of it is Kobe's total disinterest in finding the man with the open look.

Exactly. He has to bounce it off their hands and into the basket.

It does not account for the shots where he passed it to them and they missed, just where he did not pass it to them.

No it doesn't.

Yes it does. I'm not sure if there is another player in the league who will get 42 points and 0 assists.

Anyway you look at it, that is not a team payer. I'm not just saying it because it's Kobe, I would say it about anybody who had that stat line.

Honestly, I think the problem boils down to the number of shots Kobe is going to take.

I don't think there's a coach out there that can or will tell Kobe, "We want you to lead the league in shots still, but can you bring it down to something more manageable like 20/game?"

Kobe- 54% fg
Others- 38% fg

This is a two-edged sword.

That's what happened yesterday, but on average Kobe scored 27.9 ppg @ .527 TS%.

The rest of the team on average scored 69.4 ppg @ .536 TS%.

Bynum and Gasol averaged 36.1 ppg @ .570 TS%.

So even though Kobe carried them yesterday, it's a damn good thing those bigs were around, because this would have been a very ugly offensive season for the Lakers, otherwise.

Okay. Who was making shots last night? Sessions? Blake? Bynum was off artest was pretty good and pau played okay. So who does be pass to?
