Jmho, but I don't think George will be a factor at all. I think it's Jennings, Byrd, Callaway and Brandon Johnson. If Josh Smith is healthy he contributes a bit as well and perhaps Latrell Williams' very good spring translates as well.

This.
Byrd will be fine. Need 3 solid options. The #3 is a better question.

I still feel Josh Smith is the guy to beat if healthy. All his limitations are because of injuries, other guys might have a singular quality over him but all around he is the best guy next to JJ (as far as production on the field has shown). You want your number 2 to be experienced and dependable a possession guy. When healthy Smith is the best examples of all those quality on the roster. His experience should not be underestimated and his talent level is much higher than some seem to want to admit. Johnson I see as more of a slot guy also. Smith is special as he can legit play any of the 4 positions.

Gotta disagree. I think Byrd has already proven to be more explosive. Josh has flashed at times, but his productivity has never been particularly good. Then throw in 4 years of significant injuries and you have a diminished player....he caught 12 balls for less than 100 yards last year, his 4th year in the program.

No saying Smith can't play and contribute, I just think he's gonna do it in a supporting role behind younger, more talented, healthier players.

Callaway #2 on the outside. I've heard the staff absolutely loves him. He and JJ will be a solid 1-2 punch with Byrd in the slot.

Best thing the staff did last year was scrap the moronic constant subbing and stick with JJ and Josh as their two main guys.

IMO, the main rotation post-spring is JJ, Callaway and Byrd, with some special plays that utilize Williams' speed.

JJ
Callaway

Slot
Byrd
Smith
Johnson

Rotational

Yes he has proven himself explosive at the SLOT totally different position bro. It is like comparing a KR to a PR or a RB to a FB different positions just like X and Y (wideout, split end) are different skill sets. Josh Smith has the PROVEN ability to play all 3 positions there has been no indication whatsoever that Byrd can play outside.. period. No saying he can't but his body type says slot.

Maybe Byrd is the second coming of Steve Smith (panthers, santa monica college) but until I see it not gonna go there.

Brandon Johnson is not a slot wr...Brandon going to start over callaway at the end of the day...they still have a whole summer and fall camp to much time to decide who going to be the guy because before spring practice Brandon was the guy..i just feel like callaway have shown enough to say he is going to start..

I dont think Johnson was ever necessarily the guy before spring practice. Neither have really shown much yet. I don't think there is any question Callaway has the highest ceiling out of probably all the WR's though. Truly an elite athlete.

First, I've not said Byrd is gonna play wideout, I'm sure Ive said I think he is starting at Slot, ahead of the constantly injured/low producing/less explosive Josh Smith. Perhaps Josh has PROVEN he can play all 3 positions....I'd just contend he hasn't proven he can play all 3 positions well, that he certainly can't stay healthy, and that we have better options in Byrd at slot and Callaway and Johnson at wideout. Jmo.

To be fair, neither of those guys have shown enough to be the clear cut favorite to start. It's hard to say who's ahead at the moment because Callaway obviously took a good step forward in the spring, but Johnson was further along last fall.

Either way, I think both play a lot next year and beyond. Whoever loses the battle will basically be the backup for both outside receivers (though Smith can likely play rotationally at any of the WR spots).

Btw, any updates on how Johnson is bouncing back from his surgery thus far?

Smith has shown flashes, but hasn't proven much really. His career thus far has been marked by problems with injury or inconsistency (though the latter has arguably stemmed from the former).

He's shown a number of times that he has the potential to be an anchor for our WR corps...but he's failed to live up to that potential.

The only reason why I feel like that was brandon position is for one he played more than callaway and my thing is why the coaches didn't play him last year..We got a chance to least see what Brandon can do..Just because marquez practice in spring dont mean he separated himself from brandon..I'm not knocking callaway im just going by what I see..
