whatever happened to that qb that came in with Josh Smith from the same hs program? Did he make it at a smaller school?

Look at last years passing stats:

Jennings got 580 yds last year. Seemed like he did a lot better than that.

Wolf got 239 yds
Byrd 209 yds
Callaway only got 13 yds on 1 catch.

Hard to believe from those stats, but I still think Dormady throws for over 3,500 yds this year with his eyes shut.

Preston Williams really jumped ship a little early, didn't he?

The greatest part of Jennings' stats is knowing where his longest catch of the year came from! #TaborToast

agreed. when he announced his transfer, i couldn't believe it knowing what kind of opportunity there was going to be this year and next.

i think Byrd is in the slot with Smith. Jennings, Callaway, george, johnson all outside. i'd like to see if Williams can be a contributor somewhere too.

Not for any particular reason, but I keep thinking something like this:

WR1:
Jauan Jennings (1)
Latrell Williams (2)
Jeff George (3)

WR2:
Brandon Johnson/Marquez Callaway (1a/b)
[one of the incoming freshmen makes a splash] (3)

Slot:
Tyler Bryd/Josh Smith (1a/b)

I think we have guys who can line-up at different positions all over the field. For that reason, I think Byrd will line-up outside from time-to-time. Smith can play outside, too, and Williams can play snaps in the slot.

I think we will find creative ways to get the ball in Byrd's hands and I hope we see Jauan throw 2 or 3 TD passes, too. We can do a lot with this talent. It reminds me of the good ol' Vol teams that were loaded with great WRs.

The crazy part of the receiver stats from last year is Malone had 10 more catches than Jennings, for like 390 more yards. We need someone to take the top off of defenses like Malone last year. Jennings is a physical receiver, but he's not really the deep threat, we need the deep threat to open the middle and outsides up for Wolf and Jennings

there's speed on the field that's for sure, and i agree. i don't know that we need to go nuts formation wise, but i would expect to see some creativity from time to time, just to give defenses something else to think about.

but don't misunderstand, i think this will be a run first offense. with the O line and what we think kelly can be based on what we've seen so far, i think we will rely heavily on the run game....

a) if we can run, that makes QD's or JG's job easier
b) it can help limit how much time our defense is on the field

by the end of the year, the best way to describe our offense may be "opportunistic".

Offense has to get creative to get the ball more in Byrd, Calloway and Williams hands in space. I hope they don't intend to use the tight end more instead of getting the ball into these playmakers hands. I'd use Byrd some like they did Kamara, maybe not as much as a RB but a WR lined up in the backfield. You can always spilt Kelly, etc out or in the slot.

Johnson or Callaway. Also, I hope Smith is moved back to an outside receiver. I hate seeing him get those quick screens, it's a waste of a play usually. Hopefully, the slots will be Williams and Byrd.

Sounds good to me. I think whether we run to set up the pass or the other way around, the offense has the players to do both effectively. Now if we can get the defense to stay healthy we could have a really nice season.

Solid off-season thread.

Probably Byrd. But I think it depends on how the rotation works out. IMO, find 2-3 WRs other than Jennings and keep the rotation small.

Those last four words..."...keep the rotation small...for me, that's the key. It was one of Azzanni''s mistakes, IMO, to rotate so many in and out of games. No QB and WR can find any groove or rythym together when the faces are constantly changing. I'd say keep the rotation to 4-5, plus the TEs.

Your #2 receiver must be dependable. Here is my suggestion for the #2 Receiver.....

I think Callaway will blow up and be the #2 Receiver, and I also think Johnson, Williams , and Byrd will have a really good season.

Yeah, I agree. I think Jennings and Callaway have bodies for the outside while Byrd can work the middle.
this I think the second outside WR job is between Smith, Callaway with George the darkhorse. Byrd is a slot guy period.

JJ is your #1 Byrd at slot backed up by the limited/oft-injured Smith. Callaway and Brandon Johnson fight over the #2 wideout spot with Latrell Williams competing to be in the rotation and backing up those two. Jmo.

I still feel Josh Smith is the guy to beat if healthy. All his limitations are because of injuries, other guys might have a singular quality over him but all around he is the best guy next to JJ (as far as production on the field has shown). You want your number 2 to be experienced and dependable a possession guy. When healthy Smith is the best examples of all those quality on the roster. His experience should not be underestimated and his talent level is much higher than some seem to want to admit. Johnson I see as more of a slot guy also. Smith is special as he can legit play any of the 4 positions.

Smith may start because of seniority, but I expect Callaway or Johnson to get more plays each game.

The way they get more creative IS to get the TE the ball more! TE running seem routes will open up 1 or 2 recievers on his side. It also sets up swinh out passes to the RB and flat passes to the RB. TEAMS AT ALL LEVELS HAVE GREAT PASSING GAMES WHEN THEY GET THE BALL TO TE's!!!!!!

Just shows his attitude and sense of entitlement. Jennings was getting his "reps" and the game got a lot harder at the SEC level
