#2 Ohio state at Purdue

But Brohm wasn’t really a “proven” head coach. He went 30-10 at Western KY and 7-6 at Purdue. Butch had a resume like that going 27-13 at Central Michigan and 23-14 at Cincinnati. The fact is there are literally a handful of truly known commodities in college football and they weren’t coming to UT. The coordinator route is just as successful as any other. It’s just about finding the right guy and giving that person time. The fact is there are good signs with Pruitt but we still don’t know anything for sure. I’ll take the good signs though because we had troubling signs early with Dooley and Jones.
He was a far more proven HC than Pruitt.

Again, Im ok with Pruitt, but when it comes to paying the same amount of money, I'd take Brohm over Pruitt.

I understand. For me I would rather take the chance on a coordinator you feel really good about because, like you said, Brohm is more proven. To this point it looks to me like he has proven he wouldn’t be able to get us where we want to go. Then again he has only been at Western KY 3 years and Purdue 1.5 so that really isn’t enough to say one way or the other for sure. It’s like Pruitt was a total coin flip while Brohm you feel about 70% sure you know what you have. Purdue may end up 10-3 or they may end up 7-6 again. I do think he’s a decent coach but probably won’t win the Big 10.

He may still be. They started 0-3 including a loss to Missouri at home. One win against an inconsistent Ohio St team doesn’t mean he is the next Saban. It’s one good win that at least helps ease the poor start to this year.
He took over at Purdon't..... give him some time before tossing him out in the trash

Don’t get me wrong at all man. Even before last night it looked like he’s doing some good things. He’s in a similar boat as Pruitt but a year ahead. He’s in the weaker division of a tough conference. They went 7-6 last year and are 4-3 so far this year. He may be great and he may be trash. I kind of doubt either. Most likely he is a decent coach that at best ends up around 8-4 on average with an occasional Big 10 Championship appearance. I don’t think he will win the conference there but that’s why they play the games! They actually could make the title game this year as the West is up for grabs. I think UM or even Ohio St would beat them if they played again but you never know. They have some tough games left with MI St, Iowa, and UW still to come.

From SBNation's losers of the week write up:

The Buckeyes, who might have the best roster in the country according to recruiting rankings, were overwhelmed against a team that’s signed one four-star recruit since 2013. The loss exposed serious issues with the Buckeyes’ offensive line, and their rushing average was an even 3 yards. That was actually something of an improvement after a 2.9 mark the week prior against Minnesota. The average had gone down every single game since Week 1. Greg Schiano’s defense also let Brohm’s Boilermakers hold a private track meet against it.

I like how the loss you chose to point out as a bad one was the Missouri loss (fun side note: the Purdue QB threw for close to 600 yards that game) and not the loss, say, to Eastern Michigan.

General consensus on the OSU boards is they want Schiano fired at a minimum, and they are calling for Urban’s head.

They are 7-1 and still have an outside shot at the playoffs. They are delusional and entitled. They have a playoff level coach and are crying because they lost a single game. The media railing on our fan base needs to take a look at buckeye nation and their delusions and defense of a wife beating enabler. They also need to eat crow with the Schiano defense they leveled at UT last season.

I, for one, really hope they fire Urban. I would love for Urban to finally get what should have happened before the season and see that program fall into a tailspin like we have.

Enabling a wife beater at two different coaching stops = not grounds for dismissal

Losing to Purdue = grounds for dismissal?

After that butt kicking last night they should fall 20 spots in the polls. Yeah I know they will not, BIg 10 is a joke

Yep... the crap our fanbase gets both from outside and inside the fanbase has always completely baffled me... we are actually a lot more level headed than many of the other fanbases, yet we are mercilessly attacked. I guess we are supposed to have vandy level expectations while the Florida’s and georgias and Ohio states of the world have the right to be over the top because they deserve better and we don’t.

Down goes Friaser! Opps, I mean Urban. Loved it! The wheelchair Purdue fan even made it a greater feel good story!!!!

I am not saying they are the same, but Penn State fired a lifelong coach for hiding child abuse stuff and I don’t think anybody disagrees with that. There is a precedent for letting coaches go for off the field moral based stuff.

That said, there is no reason to fire Urban for on the field performance. But I would love to see OSU make that mistake. The optics of letting him slide before the season but firing him after a 1-2 loss season would (should) be skewered by the national media and that fan base would (should) get the same treatment UT fans caught.
