(2) Heat vs. (7) Knicks

Funny thing is, when he brought in Q, Curry, Marbury, etc. he was getting them below market value, and people were praising his genius. Then they saw the result, and acted like all along they knew it wouldn't work out.

That was the work of Isiah Thomas. No one thought that it was genius. The most popular saying was, "These moves make absolutely no sense. Either he has severely handicapped this team or he's a genius that sees something no one else sees."

Again, he makes the move for Melo last year and people thought it was genius and the duo would be unstoppable. A year later the same people talk about him like he's the dumbest guy ever for putting Melo with Amare.

Who thought they would be unstoppable? Melo was a consolation prize for losing the King James lottery. Most were happy that NY finally had a couple of players, but there was still a pretty large crowd thinking both were too expensive. Esp Melo. Walsh, the GM, didn't want to do it, Dolan pulled rank, and later fired Walsh. Also, S'ucktoni ran the worst possible offense for Melo.

I guess, in summary, no one has ever considered Dolan to be a genius. He's your typical, "born on 3rd base thinking he hit a triple" character.

People won't care unless he proves he can do it in game 7 of the finals, but I thought it should be pointed out that Lebron came into a 2-point game in the 4th quarter and scored 11 quick points on only 4/4 shooting. Put it away, right away.

I'm pretty sure the book I read on the matter had quotes from basketball "experts" praising the move. I'll check it out when I get home.

It seems like you had high hopes. You called both Amare and Melo top 10 players:

Knicks didn't get better? That's crazy talk! Melo doesn't shoot a high % but I'm betting that it will rise playing with Amare. Plus, what seems to be lost is Billups. He's on the tail end of his career but bringing along a pg that Melo is already used to playing with is huge!

but in the long run adding another all star and saying he doesn't make them better is utgibbs/Fulmer logic.

Wow! Having 2 of the top 10 players on the same team doesn't make a team better? Wow!

And for laughs:

Not just my opinion, Google "top ten NBA players". They are both in three lists that I found. I got no problem with you having an opinion but I'm confident it will change by the end of the year.

I was right about them being better. And that's even with Amare being basically irrelevant. "High hopes" is a bit of hyperbole on your part. I said better (which they are) not champion contenders.

I expect the Knicks to be a 3 or 4 seed next season, barring injuries.

Aren't they .500 since acquiring Melo (with Lin going like 16-8). They were at .519 last year when they traded for Melo.

They're in the playoffs. S'ucktoni was more of a problem than Melo. I'm not sure Amare can play for anyone else. We'll see. Phil Jackson will coach next season, or it will stay status quo. Either way is better than S'ucktoni.

Injuries have plagued this team. I think Lin could be a legitimate pg in this league. This season was at least progress.

I've always liked the Knicks (Allan Houston), and I'd love to see them become a dominant franchise, but it just isn't happening with Melo unless he changes his game. Honestly, he is so talented. If he took 15 shots a night and gave more effort defensively, he'd probably be a top 20 player, IMO. His inability to involve teammates, and choose good shots makes him an undesirable player.

If a new coach (Phil Jackson) can talk him into fewer shots, they will be very good at full strength.

Melo has the worst winning % of anyone in NBA history in the playoffs (min 50 games).

Come on Knicks!

I don't know what good it will do but it would be nice if they could push the series past 4. Unfortunately, I'm expecting them to close up shop and throw in the towel. Hopefully they'll surprise.
