2 for 1 (or the Da'rick Double Down)

I made this up for the large reason to get some topic away from the "sky is falling" mentallity we've seen a lot lately, and because the idea of it seemed a bit unique to me. I'd take one or two a year like that and not worry about it (some of those bad players could surely play special teams), but I wouldn't do 5 or 6 a year, that was mostly to show the extent of it.

Of course, most people couldn't figure out it was an insane and hypothetical scenario for entertainment purposes and instead just went straight to going after the poster instead of the idea. no surprise there from good ole volnation.

no. stars on a player are like a guide, but without the right coaches stars mean nothing. besides 5 star players are like beautiful women sometimes they just aren't worth the all trouble.

I got to thinking about this the other day when they announced Nash Nance was transferring, and it got me to thinking that we basically gave up two scholarships for one player. Now, that one player had one of the best seasons of any WR in the SEC and at UT. Here is my question/hypothetical for you:

Would you sign multiple players like Da'rick if it meant giving some of their less talented friends scholarships also? Say we get 5 or 6 guys a year like them, but it takes up 12-14 scholarships to get them. Would you do it? (and no we don't get the benefit of knowing if they are drama queens, busts, or just good players. that is part of the risk)

What say you, lone sane board of volnation?

Hitch?

Didn't we take a deal like that a few years back and both player turned out to stink.

D Mo and Creer were the last ones i can recall, but both were pretty darn good. Bo hardegree and that linebacker bust (he was so bad i can't even recall his name) were the other set, but they were a little earlier. They are probably the group you recall.

When it is a "can't miss" type of player and we aren't tight on scholarships, I think you have to do it. These types of situation haven't come up, that I'm aware of, often enough to do it 5 or 6 times a year.

2 positives came of it. 1....we got DaRick from Georgia. 2........Nash decommitted from Vandy.

It gets a little more interesting if you stay strictly at 2 for one.... and then have the one transfer after 2 years.

Sometimes it works the opposite too. Wasn't Denarius Moore given a scholarship so they could land Lennon Creer only for Moore to be the good one?

Yes. I actually think Creer was a victim of circumstances a little though. Fulmer couldn't coach him and Kiffin apparently didn't like him. He has talent.

You wouldn't take six 5 star athletes for twelve scholarship spots? I mean Nance was on scholarship and never risked seeing the field. I'd take a 5 star D-line and RB for two scholarships each easy.

Bryce Brown is the shiz. He's totally worth two scholarships. One from Tennessee and one from Kansas State. Dude is going pro on like 500 yards rushing. Beast.

That is it. Daniel Brooks was the linebacker.

I say yes. A couple of the Nash Nance's may make backup status, which is about on par with our classes now. ...and if u had 6 guys as dominant as Da'Rick, we'd be pretty good. + if we had 6, then 12, then 18 guys of that caliber on the team, those other 10 or so slots a year would be very attractive to other Da'Rick's. Fun question!

I would that means 5 or 6 all-SEC players a year. Even if only 1/2 panned out we would be stacked in 2 years.

I was wondering what the family situation is between Rogers and Nance? I hope they are still as close and the Nance family still come to the football games, to support Rogers. Does anyone know if Rogers remains in contact with Nance(and his family)?
