We had to find somebody who was willing to risk his career on a rebuilding project with a three-year window of success. While going up against the best programs in the country. In three days. We were in the worst negotiating position possible; there was no way that we weren't going to end up overpaying to get somebody.
I like Dooley and I want him to be successful. But that doesnt mean I am going to check my brain at the door.
UT fired Fulmer for going 5-7 and a year later we hire La Tech coach after he goes 4-8. If that isn't bad enough, we now offer him 2.4 million a year?? He probably has the weakest resume of any coach in the SEC at this point. I understand the fact that he was at the bottom of the list of coaches UT was interested in. But 2.4 million????
You think Kippy Brown requires that much?
Hamilton's fighting for his job. He can't afford to do nothing, which is what promoting the guy who was hired to be your WR coach would have seemed like.
I'm not saying it's right, but when it's your own ass on the line, you're more willing to spend the company's money.

couldn't have said it better myself
I'm not arguing that Hamilton wasnt in a hard place and would end overpaying a coach, but this still seems excessive. The UT program still has a lot going for it, top 10 in wins, 2nd largest stadium in the country, facilities as good as in anywhere, and is in a beautiful location on the Tennessee River. I'm not Hamilton is the right guy to sell the program.
:good!:
I find that almost impossible to believe he would be getting paid more than paul johnson, Greg schiano, frank Beamer, Butch Davis, Bo Pelini, Steve Spurrier, Jeff Tedford, Chip Kelley, Joe Pa, Randy Edsall, Gary Patterson 1.3mil, Neuheisel, Harbaugh 1mil, Chris Peterson 900K, Pat Fitzgerald 750K, K Whittingham 700K If this is true Hamilton needs to be fired thats almost 3 times as much as C.Peterson makes and he hasn't lost in the wac in several years and more than 3times as much as P.Fitzgerald makes and K Whittingham
I don't want Hamilton trying to lowball coaches, like Kiffin, so that it plants a seed dissent in a coaches mind.I am not going to hate on the guy. But he is a shrewd negotiator to pull 2.4 million out of the school!!!
2.4 million per year!!! What the heck is Mike Hamilton thinking?
I like the guy, he seemed genuine during the news conference, and a pretty bright guy.
I think we will have a lot of pain for a few years, and then see the light.
But 2.4 million makes no sense at all financially.
Analyzing salaries for Football Bowl Subdivision coaches - USATODAY.com
tracts most of college coach salaries. Look at the big names. I mean he makes more money than all but 20 out of the 100 coaches in the conference!!!
He makes more than spurier, pellini, paterson, gundy, davis, Chizik, Nutt and Beamer plus a a few other PROVEN coaches.
That is a crazy figure, and Hamilton should be canned for shelling out that figure. That gives them less money than last year for assistant coaches.
I wasn't in favor of giving the reigns to Kippy, as he hasn't even held down an OC job for any length of time...and was last a position coach. Nevertheless, he would have more to sell a recruit than Dooley.Maybe. But on 01/15/10 I don't consider Dooley to be any better of a candidate than Brown. In fact, I'd give the edge to Brown. It might have looked like doing nothing today, but he wasn't getting fired today. He gets fired if we need another coach in 3 years.

Dooley has nothing but saying "I was on Saban's staff"...big freakin whoop. And that qualifies someone to take over at a program of this magnitude with this level of competition? Hamilton needs to have his @$$ set on fire and sent back to Clemson...yesterday. And given a free "IT'S TIME" Kiffin T-Shirt as a parting gift.
