2-1/2 quarters is about all you can expect from this team against deep talented upper echelon SEC teams. Let's face it Poot screwed the pooch by not starting Maurer game 1. Hindsight is 20/20. who knew JG would regress this bad? Ga State was close till the end, BYU was close till the end so no QB change? - guess Pruitt had his reasons. We are not deep enough yet to compete 4 qtrs with elite teams. Our back end Defense is bad against the pass, Warrier cannot seem to get it done. He is OK against the run but we are out of position on the back end way too much.
Lots of positives going forward- Morris, Wright, Offensive line is at least average which is a step up. A QB that can actually find an open receiver and make the throw. We need to get a bruiser back that can always get 3 yards, One of the best QB's in the nation will most likely become the starter next year the first day he sets foot on campus. Our linebacker corp is only going to get better with ToTo and Crouch. Right now as frosh they screw up too many assignments in pass coverage but get better every week. If Pruitt has a good year recruiting this year, we'll be back at least next year to being able to get these games into the 4th quarter with a chance to win.

2 years from now IF Pruitt can continue to recruit at a high level? We will be beating the dog **** out of the likes of the DAWGS. Took us 10 years to get settled into this cluster near FUBAR we are in - aint nobody going to fix it in 1 -2 years... Basketball season will be here soon- GO VOLS

Can continue? Lol recruiting in the top 20 while uga is in the top 2 isn’t quite the recipe to beat the dog $&@“ out of them

Did JG really regress that bad? I mean lots of people wanted him benched last year.

His stats are deceiving which leads many to believe he has regressed.

Im sorry to beat a dead horse...……………….I don't care WHO the QB is. Until the OL grows a pair and the Defense Grows up...…….it doesn't matter!! It aint gonna get fixed anytime soon. You have to believe and wait on the Process!!

Tackling was atrocious. Who on earth does Shambuger think he is trying to shoulder bump a running back instead of tackling him. Has our defensive staff just given up on teaching and correcting? See the same terrible techniques and fundamentals every week. It’s contagious with this team.

The o-line has shown a lot of improvement, I don't put this one on them (entirely). This is a defensive line issue. They cant get pressure on anything.

I think they played hard for 4 quarters yesterday.

What you have to hope for is that this isn’t the Kentucky basketball problem. In basketball, Kentucky comes to town and everybody plays like their life depended on it. Diving for every loose ball, hustling on defense, etc.

As a fan, you think “damn, if we played this hard against teams not ranked in the top 5, we could have actually won some games”. But most teams don’t bring that same effort when Alabama or South Carolina rolls into town

Seems like they want that ESPN highlight hit instead of just tackling the guy.

Provided they play with that same effort next week (and depending on how many injuries we sacked up this game) we have a decent shot next week vs MSU.

It's reasonable to assume JG would give you the best chance to win prior to the season. While I wish Pruitt would have gone to Maurer eariler in the year, it's not as cut and dry as it seems. I'm just glad Pruitt realized a change needed to be made. Considering the circumstances, Maurer was pretty amazing. He still has a bunch of things to work on, but that's to be expected from a freshman QB.

This is the odd thing. This staff is known for teaching mechanics to untold number of NFL bound players. Pruitt is considered a defensive guru, not just for schemes but for teaching up players with solid mechanics. Yes, he recruited superstars but he also taught them how to "play the right way". Why our guys arent catching it, I dont know. Then again, Chaney is considered something of a QB whisperer and neither he, Tee or a Hiesman QB on staff seem to be able to have helped JG.

All of this is true and very puzzling. Especially with JG - he’s regressed under those guys

This is the truth.. We can play big for 2 quarters, if we get momentum. Florida game backfired due to our lack of execution. Other teams prey on moments like that, we do not have the mental grit to overcome it as of yet. Pruitt will need 5 years to turn it around, anything sooner will be great but we all need to slow play it and watch it progress. Beat MSU, UAB, UK, VANDY, and we all shut up (add USCjr or Mizzou AND WE REALLY SHUT UP!!). Fans keep bringing it! we need PLAYERS and depth!

I like what I saw with Maurer last night. His first start against the number 3 team in the country. I hope he didn’t get hurt badly on that sack (which was a sorry thing to do that late in the game leading by that much).

I'm in this camp....few secondaries look good when you give someone like Fromm ALL DAY LONG.
We didn't try the blitz much, but when we did...Georgia very effectively picked it up and burned us bad.

A few bonus points for forcing several FGs and a few short yardage stops.

Think this is about the best to expect out of the current defensive talent.

I'd like to add....Georgia was trending toward 80-85 plays until they went into time-eating mode. Tough for the 2nd half defense to overcome that.

It's a bit telling when the other team has their 2s and 3s in during the fourth quarter and we still have our starters out there. And they are gassed.

Agreed on your point, I thought he would progress forward with a better line and Chaney, but he's just a slightly worse offering than last year.

Another Butch recruit we're having to play, future recruiting will take care of these issues.

There just isnt enough depth in the coaching staff to expect them to be able to teach the entire defense how to tackle.
