It is only Week 2, and our Vols are 2-0, but today was an opportunity to build some confidence, solve some basic issues, and allow back-ups some experience.
Unfortunately, we ended up doing largely none of that.

Dormady is the clear starter, and it isn't even close. Yet, here comes JG in the 1st qtr for a couple pointless series that completely wasted much needed time to improve the passing game. Listen, JG deserves to play, but when it makes sense for the team. He shouldn't have stepped foot onto that field until QD hit some of those downfield passes that he missed early. He needed the game experience and deserved the first half to be his.

The defense was OK, and I am probably being charitable. What should terrify all of us is that we got ZERO pass rush on their QB. Indiana State is a bad football team, and we did very little to move them on the D-line. This will get ugly in SEC play and quality SEC QB's will pick us apart if we can't develop a serviceable line and pass rush. And how many times did we get beat on the Jet Sweep?

Luckily Florida is a bad football team on offense, so we can definitely beat them. I just hope we start to develop some sense of an identity on both sides of the ball. Tonight was an opportunity to do that. Unfortunately, we wasted it.

Gotta admit with uf next I would liked to have seen QD throw for 300+ with a few TDs before JG saw the field. He's gonna need all the confidence in the world to walk into the swamp and get a win. JG isn't ready anyways

Hopefully JG watches the film this week and takes a few quiet moments for some self-reflection, and accepts that his place is the #2 spot this season.

We will see. JG coming in early reeked of a coach trying to appease an attitude over the needs of the team. Its Hurd 2.0.

First paragraph: We needed to allow backups some experience!

Second paragraph: Arg! Why did we put in backups?!?

Yeah I hope . the last thing this team needs is a distraction at the qb spot. I would like to see the staff change the offensive scheme a bit. Line up under center and do some PA . it would fit QD better and help him out some. Who knows what we will see next Saturday though.

Really? That's what you took away from it?

It looks like he literally stopped reading right after he put the second phrase in bold.

That, or it could just be a failure in reading comprehension; seems to be a reoccurring issue on the boards.

I took away from it that today was much better than you're making it out to be.

We held them to 7 points, and that was the result of a short field. They were 0/11 on 3rd conversion attempts. They had 92 total passing yards. Special teams looked good -- did you notice the opening kick off? We put 42 points. Five different players scored touchdowns today.

It honestly feels like I watched a different game than half or more of the people on here.

I took it as he didn't see Indiana State as a threat at that point. If the QB competition all off season was real (instead of attempting to appease JG's attitude), he needed to see meaningful snaps in a real game to judge him. That means not garbage time stats, and this was the game to do that.

The team we played today is seriously 1 step up from a high school team. For real, have you seen their stadium ? We could have won if we started all jumpers

Yes, I agree. And we did exactly what we were supposed to do -- we won 42 to 7. That's a blowout. What's your point?
