My wife and I are heading to Knoxville for the Vols/Dawgs game next weekend. It will be our first trip to a game there, it was my wedding present to my wife! I am just looking for some basic insight or tips to go by:
-Where is the best parking?
-We do no have tickets, planned on getting them the day of from a scalper, but need to know what FACE VALUE IS for lower level tickets
-Where is the vols walk done? We would love to see that?
-Best tailgating??

Anything else that a rookie might need to know....

There is no place for "best parking". It is all worst parking.

Depending on the apathy level you might be able to get tix for about $30-40 apiece area.

Vol Walk is somewhere around 2 hours before kickoff. Someone else could probably answer this better than me.

Best tailgating is in the lots 1 block north of the strip. $35 to park there.

Don't miss Spirit of the Hill by the Pride. Someone else fill in on the time for that one as well. I used to be in it but I never noticed the time we marched.

By the way, I travel too far so, I'm not really sure about the best tailgating area. The few times I have been it has been where I mentioned and the Communications building lots. Most of the time I just head to the Mellow Mushroom.

Lot's of info about the stadium, etc., is here.

Closer to the game they will have times for VolWalk, etc.

Unless I am tailgating, I usually take a bus from my hotel. Lot's of hotels offer this. I think they usually leave 2-3 hours before kickoff. But you might want to get down there really early and check out the strip, etc.

You are going to have a blast.

What is the "strip"?

Sorry. Cumberland Avenue, which runs alongside the campus. Lots of bars, food, etc. Behind there you will find a lot of tailgaters.

Not sure how new you are to Tennessee football, but lot's of good info about traditions, etc., can be found here.

Knoxville is great!! Most of the fans are really nice and just enjoy having a great time. I went there last year when Florida played there and had a blast! Yea the strip is the best!! You will be fine, most Vol fans are pretty classy. Enjoy.

I always park over by the strip and walk over..less traffic and you can get out alot quicker after the game back to interstate.

Face value tickets can be found just about anywhere.

Best tailgating is on the river...buy a boat!

Sorry, I do not think they allow boats thru the security check at the airport!!!

NO WAY, WE ARE HUGE VOLS FANS!!!!!!!!

I am wondering what face value of tickets IS. We have been told my so many people to wait and buy tickets right before the game. But the wife is picky and if we do not egt good "seats" she will have my butt. We have an offer on some in T, like row 33 for $150 per....

Parking is not great anywhere. Sorry. You can pay $20 bucks to park in yards and whatnot.

The Vol Walk is about 2 hours or so before kickoff. Find the Nursing building on Volunteer Blvd. The Vol Walk goes right by it. I also suggest you get some BBQ from the people that sell it right there.

If you want, I'm tailgating at the corner of Lake Loudon and Volunteer Blvd. There is a parking lot there and we'll have a tent set up.

justingroves> Thanks for the invite, we might just have to take you up on that!!!!

So those tickets on the 50 might not be that bad????

If we wait until right before kickoff, are we going to get good seats, like the lower bowl!!

If you want to pay a little less for parking, and don't mind the walk, you can park downtown in the Locust Street Garage. It is $10. Otherwise, most of the parking close to campus is $20-$30. You can't park on campus either unless you're a donor and have a special parking permit.
You can also park at the Coliseum for about $5 (I think), and pay $3 to ride the shuttle bus to the game. If you do that though, be prepared to stand in line a looooong time after the game is over to catch a bus back to the Coliseum.
Hope you and your wife enjoy the game...GO VOLS!!

An extra $12.50 a ticket is worth it for the 50 IMO.
