1st Scrimmage of Fall Camp TODAY!

I honestly believe that Merk is gonna be perfectly fine if he starts. JA in my opinion was brought in for depth, if he wins the starting job, we've done an extraordinary job at developing Merk.
They are paying JA a lot of money to hold a clip board. I think they value his experience and actual playing time against P4 schools enough to roll the dice on him starting, at least until he shows he can’t.

I think we see JA start on a tight leash with the Merksligner waiting in the wing.

It’s more than that. He is the hub to this recruiting class. He’s been working hard on these commits we have. That said, I don’t see him backing away from the competition. If Mac were to win the job that only shows that Heup will allow a real competition and the actual best man to win. That said, I don’t think it happens. Mac hasn’t had the 1st team defense in his face yet. My understanding is his family also wants a redshirt year to get bigger.

I still think JA gets the nod just due to experience, mobility and deep ball skills. It’s more about managing the game and getting g those first couple of games under your belt.
This is the most likely scenario. I doubt Faizon is going to shy away from a battle.

Eventually we will see one of Merk, Mac, or Brandon transfer down the line though. Too much talent to keep on the bench.

Well, just think how UCLA felt then. They supposedly paid over a million to him to never do anything. I honestly think he was brought in for depth, surely you don't bring a guy in like him to start.

Anyone know anything about Josh Schell? I know he’s a transfer from Grand Valley State and he’s listed in the two deep at DT at 265 lbs on ourlads. Seems a little light.

I was thinking Isaiah Campbell, Charles House, or Nathan Robinson might be that 4th DT this year because it doesn’t seem like it will be Wallace.
Not sure he plays a big role at all. Maybe rotational player if there are injuries. Watch clips of him going through drills you can see he lacks a little explosiveness and athleticism you need in the SEC. But I can see him get some good snaps vs lower competition. But would be surprised if he's in the two deep at any position,

Who woulda thought the strength of a Josh Heupel team would be the defense? Does that speak more about how far the D has come or how down the O is? I think a little of both maybe but more-so the D. That could be a nasty group. Truth is we don’t know what we have on O yet besides a lot of questions.

He has been very wise in his selection of his defensive coaches. They recruit well and coach even better.

That’s more what I thought too, but ourlads has been surprisingly accurate thus far through my experience. It’s spot on everywhere save possibly listing Beasley ahead of Farooq, but that is even debatable.

Nah. There’s enough talent and quality depth on this roster to expect no worse than 8-4 this year imo. Anything worse would be cause for concern.
Much more concerned about the decay in character of our posters. Throwing in the towel with one datapoint is pretty weak. Learning curves playing together are a real thing to watch.

If you guys are all up in arms about 1 Int per game , I suggest you find another sport to watch. 1 int a game is EXPECTED in 18-23 year old athletes playing in the sec. Have any idea what athletes are playing DB in the sec ? Incredible quickness , closing hole in milliseconds.
Yep, I'll accept 1 INT/game if we are getting 3-4 passing TDs/game. I care more about (a) when the INT happens, (b) the ratio of. TD:INT, and (c) the INT/pass attempt.

There is a lot more to the INT stat than just plain old # of INTs.

I look at it more like they were paying Nico 2-2 1/2 times the amount they are giving JA....so bringing him in for competition/wisdom and saving $1 - $1.5M with the potential that he could start is a wise investment...at worse, you saved over a million dollars for someone providing quality depth.

You guys that are suggesting McIntyre leaves if he doesnt win the job need to watch yourselves. McIntyre is a Tennessee kid. His family loves Tennessee. He loves Tennessee. He isnt going to let competition or another 5 star qb make him hit the portal

This^^^ Joe Borrow threw 6 INT’s during his NC run but he also threw 60 TD’s. Nico in 13 games last season threw 5 INT’s and 19 TD’s and only had one game where he threw multiple INT’s and that was the first game of last season.

I think my concern with JA is he had 5 games last season where he threw multiple INT’s in one game and as I stated earlier you just can’t spot the good teams in the SEC two extra possessions in a game.

Why is there never discussion of Beasley/Farooq over Turrentine? His play has certainly not placed him above reproach

That will not be good.
If Aguilar can't cut it, I'm fine playing the freshman. If our OL is improved as much as folks say, we should be able to play the kid and have at least as much success as with Milton or maybe even Nico? UF played Lagway so why not?

So you pretty much think Merk isn't in the running?

You apparently haven't watched our QBs the last four years. Try one interception per 3-4 games.

i think nico is an immature idiot and we were caught in a bad situation. he tried to leverage that. we had to get someone, no takers

We sorta had no choice but to overpay Aguilar.
