I was responding to someone about Brandon decommiting if GMac was to be named the starter this year. I don't want him to decommit, but if he did, there is nothing we can doI think the 1st sentence is silly. Agree with the second sentence though.
Faizon is the best HS quarterback in the country. If you've watched his film, he is an incredible athlete who just led his underdog Greensboro NC team to a state title last year against bigger schools with more D1 athletes. He committed early and has recruited hard for us...we have 3 amazing WRs coming in his class now in King,Bey, and Moa. They are even better than the 3 WRs we landed in 2025 of Smith, Jackson, and Dodson IMO...which is really saying something. He is still trying hard to talk #1 WR for 26 Keys into flipping to the VOLS as well. He is all VOL. Losing Brandon would be an incredible loss, fortunately thats not gonna happen.
I agree with you that Gmac is gonna be really good next year. He may well beat out Brandon next season as a freshman. Especially if Gmac gets to play a good bit this season in games. Next years QB battle is gonna be crazy man. Whether Jake M is still here or not. Many folks here want to act like Merklinger is an afterthought...but Jake was an Elite 11 finals QB as a senior in HS. Top 10 QB in the country himself, Jake can run and throw well just like the others. So enticing to watch this season with so much competition at so many positions like QB, WR, RB, Dline, and Safety. We have really good freshmen at EVERY position I just mentioned as well. These 2025 and 26 classes are the ones that will have us making playoff runs in 26,27,28. It's GREAT to be a TENNESSEE VOL
He’s got lanky basketball player type legs which is a concern. He’s tall, likely 6’8 in cleats, so if he keeps the ball, if the defender wants to come in helmets and shoulder pads at his thighs, there’s not much there right now.All this talk about weight... How much do Burrow, Carr, Cousins, and Murray weigh? If G Mac is really up to 206, he isn't "frail," as some have suggested. He's probably in great shape with a low body fat %, and he's not going to be pushing around linemen and linebackers.
It may not but JA may be the best option. Merk needs to be further along than he is and GMAC may not have the frame for an SEC season yet. That will not be good.
I honestly believe that Merk is gonna be perfectly fine if he starts. JA in my opinion was brought in for depth, if he wins the starting job, we've done an extraordinary job at developing Merk.It may not but JA may be the best option. I will say if JA is the starter and he continues to throw his average of 1 INT per start the fans need to temper their expectations. 8-4 is the ceiling if we know going in we are giving up 12 turnovers not counting the others that we know will happen.
I agree. I think Merk starts the season CJH has shown he values players who manage the game and don’t turn the ball over. I am not sure he finishes as the starter but we shall see.I honestly believe that Merk is gonna be perfectly fine if he starts. If it was one INT per game maybe that isn’t so bad but that isn’t typically the way it goes. The INT’s will come against the better competition so if you are fine with spotting UGA, Bama, FLA and Oklahoma two or more possessions a game it isn’t a problem. If you guys are all up in arms about 1 Int per game , I suggest you find another sport to watch. 1 int a game is EXPECTED in 18-23 year old athletes playing in the sec. Have any idea what athletes are playing DB in the sec ? Incredible quickness , closing hole in milliseconds.

Nico was rail thin. Larger than people think just due to being 6'6". The two have similar builds. All this talk about weight... How much do Burrow, Carr, Cousins, and Murray weigh? when your number is called, you have to be ready to play.It took Colquitt getting hurt on the 7th play of the game, then Todd Helton getting hurt in game 3 for Peyton Manning to play as a freshman. Even then he had to beat out fellow highly ranked freshman Branndon Stewart.
It would take similar circumstances for GMac to get a start this year.
It’s more than that. He is the hub to this recruiting class. He’s been working hard on these commits we have. That said, I don’t see him backing away from the competition. If Mac were to win the job that only shows that Heup will allow a real competition and the actual best man to win. That said, I don’t think it happens. Mac hasn’t had the 1st team defense in his face yet. My understanding is his family also wants a redshirt year to get bigger.I was responding to someone about Brandon decommiting if GMac was to be named the starter this year.
