I'm having my knee scoped @ 7 in the morning, torn meniscus. Just curious if anyone who has had this type of surgery can tell me how long the healing process lasts. I'm assuming a round of golf is out of the question this weekend.

Ive had both knees scoped three times and have had a tibial osteotomy on both. If you are just getting it scoped to clean up some torn meniscus then I think it is outpatient and you should be able to walk without any crutches in a couple of days. Will be able to do light sports in a week. At least thats how I was

My right knee grinds.

Both knees sound like there coming apart when I bend at the knee

Too many squats with too much weight

Same here, sounds like a pack of firecrackers going off, I asked the doctor what it was and he said it's just build up behind the kneecaps from years of abuse

To the OP, are you getting it done up here or going to Bham?

Getting it done in Florence, Al, where I live. The doc wasn't very specific about the after effect so I thought I would ask on good ole VN.

If its just a scope, its no big deal. I dont think you will be able to play golf this weekend though due to the swelling in your knee you will have

I had knee almost a year ago. I went in with the idea they were only doin a lateral meniscectomy but when i got out they told me they did more. When he got in there he said that I had waited to long and the skiing and working out i did while it was torn did more damage. He ended up doing a tibial chondroplasty due to the amount of arthritis that he found(which sucks because i'm only 23). I was on crutches for four weeks and wasn't released until three months later. I'm at 100% now and can do anything I want without swelling or pain. He said if it had been just the meniscectomy that it would have been 4-5 weeks tops that i was out so as long as it's just that, it won't be bad at all.

Make sure you take the pain medicine, they give you when you leave the hospital, and use the crutches

I didn't realise they put local anesthesia in the knee, I left the hospital and felt fine

walked into walgreens without the crutches, picked up the pain pills

got home laid around on the coach, then went to bed..

I did elevate it with a pillow, but didn't take a pain pill, since I still didn't feel any pain

I woke up about 3 in the morning, with my leg feeling like it had been cut off..the local anesthesia had finally worn off
