1st game at Neyland

My first Tennessee game was the 1988 Boston College game(a 10-7 win). Tennessee was lucky to win,BC was screwed out of a long touchdown pass at the end of the game. Jack Bicknell was really going at it with the zebras.

Nothing like your first game. Mine was the 04 Louisiana Tech game with my dad. You can feel the magic every Saturday in Neyland but nothing like your first time. Enjoy

I felt tingles going down my back when i walked to the nosebleed seats in the upper deck when i took a look at all the Tennessee fans.

Park next to University bookstore in the multi deck parking lot, walk over to the gift store in Stokely and walk around the arena looking at photos of Basket Vols past. Stop in at Gibbs dorm to see players... Oh wait a minute.......

This weekend will be a first time for me too. I'm about 5 hours away. I'm staying with an acquaintance of mine who was nice enough to offer me a place to stay Saturday night. They didn't offer Friday night however, and I really wanted to go tailgate. Would it be completely crazy to try and leave by 7 central time, get their by 1 eastern time, park and tailgate for a couple of hours before the game? Or should I leave even earlier?

Me and wife 1st game is this Saturday. Any tailgating info? Alcohol concealment? Places to check out? Trying to get everything in as much as we can 😄. Deffinitly checking out the volwalk

Go to Gus's good times deli and get a hoagie on dark. Good scenery around circle park around the torch. Inside the gate around gate 21 there is a vol gear shop inside the stadium. Get in at least 30 minutes before kick-off to see the circle of life drill. That's cool! Get ready to make noise on third down! The men's restrooms are the only crappy thing in the stadium. Have fun and Go Vols!!

Pretty pumped though. I went to the tennessee-UVA basketball game in 2012 up in Charlottesville but there was hardly anyone there.

Headed from Virginia. 4 hour drive leaving Saturday morning at 7am

I head down from VA as well. I was going to try and help you avoid traffic at certain times of day. But I am not familiar will traveling down on game day.

Where do you normally watch the games in Salem?

I am from Louisiana and this will be my second time attending a game there. Where is the best place to park with someone who has handicap disabilities? What time should we arrive? Also I'm in section Y9 down low. Are those good seats?

There is an all handicap lot on the Ag campus that you can get to from Neyland Drive. There are regular free shuttles from there to Gate 21 before the game and back after.

MY FIRST GAME AT NEYLAND????

My first time seeing a game at Neyland was before it was given it's name.

Matter of fact, the General was the coach of the Vol's, and he would later win another national championship.

And it was before there was TV.

And for you older guys, it was a high school game. Anybody remember when a high school game was played there every year?

And what were the schools????

Only the white hairs need reply.

Or ask your grand daddy!

About twenty minutes before kickoff, our bands drum section comes onto field with team during warm ups.
Team led by Curt and AJ do this circle drill.
Gets them and crowd amped up,
It's on YouTube.

My first game was '98 Florida. I was a freshman at UT and had no idea what I was in for. Needless to say after that game I was hooked for life. VFL!

My only regret was never seeing the vol walk in the 5 years I was there. Would love to get back for a game and see it.

Halls vs. Rhea County, 1986, state quarterfinals. Jason Julian hit a 50-yard field goal.

Central vs. Lincoln County, 1990, state semifinals. Todd Helton contained. Lincoln County won.

Not a white hair.

The latest I would leave Jackson is 6am cst. I just made the trip. From Jackson, it's every bit of 5 hours going 78-80mph. Personally, I'd drive and stay at a cheap EconoLodge. I'm sure you could find one in Knoxville or in Crossville.

This is also our first trip to Neyland. Me, the hubby, and our two kids. Kids are 14 and 10, so they'll be no tailgating for us lol. Aside from that, what else do we need to know? I'm very curious about parking. Hubby is disabled and has trouble walking long distances. I can drop him at the gate and go park if need be, but just curious if there are plenty of disabled parking places or if there are shuttles?
Also, how early will we need to show up to get a good spot for the vol walk? Best place to be for it?
Thanks in advance for any advice.
