The first game broadcast by John Ward and Bill Anderson. First game on the new Tartan Turf (Doug’s Rug).

About the final 12 minutes. Picks up with GA leading 10-9.

Final score 17-17 with Bubba Wyche connecting with Kreis on the final play of regulation (15-17) on 4th and 20. Then the 2-point extra point is “gooooood” to Delong with 0:00 on the game clock.

John Ward: UT Vols vs Georgia, 1968 (Conclusion)

I had a friend named Happy Dicks( really) who was a star LB at UGA in the game. Saw him about 5 years ago at his mom's funeral. He said it's a good thing they didnt have video replay in 68, because Gary Kreis dropped the ball!:)

I was born at Ft Sanders during that game. The nurse asked my Mom if she wanted to look out the window to see it, my Mom asked the nurse if she wanted to look to see the baby coming out.
Could you actually see into the stadium back then?

Did he have sisters named Henrietta & Marietta Dicks?

I was there as well. I was 10 and it was my second game at Neyland. I told my brother there was no way we could win when we were down by 8 late in the game. He said “We can get a TD and go for 2”. I didn’t even know you could do that. Too bad I was at the wrong end of the field when we scored.

Happy Dicks got injured at one point and missed the UGA/ SC game and Lewis Grizzard wrote the best headline in the history of journalism for the Red and Black the next day . . .

"Dawgs beat Cocks with Dicks Out"

Lewis Grizzard one of the funniest of all time! My grandfather had a good friend named Hal Durham who was the manager of the Opry for years who was also friends with Lewis . Lewis used a line in a book that my grandfather had told Mr.Durham about” My gun has killed less people than Ted Kennedy”. I’m pretty sure my grandfather didn’t originate the line but LG put it in the book , attributed it to his “good friend in Nashville “ and received a personalized autographed copy of the book . I remember one of his tapes he was ragging on the Spanish military for some reason and said “ ain’t nobody afraid of Spain.... hell they couldnt whoop VAN-duh- BUILT “

If they had replay then Georgia might could have had calls in their favor reversed as well. The call on the field was a TD so Happy Dicks can kiss my ***.

You also have to click the round PLAY button below and right of the John Ward pic. If it still doesn’t work then you have settings on your phone or ‘puter blocking something.

There's no play button below Ward's picture. There's a play button at the top left under Soundcloud, a round orange circle with a white arrow pointing to the right. When I click on that, the arrow changes to three dots that continuously scroll from left to right, but there's still no sound. The volume is set to max.
