Doug Dickey and the 1965 Vols that went 8-1-2 will be honored Saturday. About 50 players from the ’65 team are expected to run thru the T.

This is also the VFL weekend; 500 VFLs and their guests are invited. The VFLs also can run thru the T. UT's Legend: Chuck Smith

3 former UT coaches killed in ‘65 when Dickey was coach will be honored: Bill Majors (26 when died), Bob Jones (30) and Charlie Rash (28).

Awesome. I'm assuming that only a small % of the invitees will actually make it. Otherwise, that could be a heck of a run through the T.

One of my favorite games of the year! The chance to clap and cheer for these Vols is an honor.

I have been told that as many as 300 former players could be in attendance.

My sophomore year at UTK and partied with a bunch of these guys. I was living at Clinch Towers apts. and they and their girlfriends came over to enjoy our pool and hospitality. This was the year Mr. Frank Menendez, All-American middle linebacker, and Co., got the Vol program turned around and headed back to the top with a Bluebonnet Bowl victory over a really good Tulsa team. Truly, magical times, my friends....

Frank Emanuel.... my bad. He was a regular at Clinch Towers. Menendez was a Vol player I met later, but, Frank Emanuel was the AA linebacker and one of the finest in the country.

They were coaches who died in train accident morning after Bama game I think, at Morrell Rd/Westlend Drive.

All assistants coming to work early foggy Monday morning. The 6-6 tie with Bama was the result of Kenny Stabler throwing the ball out of bounds to stop the clock, thinking it was 3rd down; it was 4th and Vols take over on their own goal line, thus, preserving the tie.

My Cousin, Jack Patterson, was on that team and will be in attendance.

I'm pretty sure Jack dated my long-time high school sweetheart after I was out of the picture. She still speaks highly of him to this day. Lordy taters, seems like yesterday...
