Something I thought was interesting from Pruitt's presser:

"Guys I coached the Alabama defense against this Vanderbilt offense last year and called the exact same plays".

Alabama shut out Vanderbilt last year.

The difference is Jimmies and Joes. Pruitt may or may not be the guy, but at this point the thing we need more than anything is staff continuity and recruiting. Only the shortsighted rednecks of the fanbase could say otherwise.

So we wont win unless we get the absolute best players??? That really doesnt say much to his "coaching" and ability to adjust

I hate that you're just now finding out about this many of us knew it before the game

Exactly. What a stupid sentiment... I mean hell just pay me half his salary and I guarantee you that if you give me a whole team full of the best players in the country I could win pretty well to. Anyone could. Regardless of what people think you actually do pay a coach to turn chicken **** into chicken salad, anyone can turn chicken **** into runny chicken ****.

What I think is hilarious about the Candies is that they're making such a big deal about this being their longest streak over the Vols since the 1920s: if you think twice about that, it's not really saying much, is it.

Since the 1920s, we've had streaks over the Commodores of 22, 9, 8, 6 (twice), 5 and 4 (thrice).

And then of course there's the overall series record: 75–33–5, in our favor.

Wow... Kind of rude and presumptive. You have no idea when I first learned this fact. You only know when I chose to share it here...
Sorry if you took it as rude.....Right now it is the only thing I am hearing from Vandy fans....I must know the only 10 in the stadium....
terrible stat that needs to be fixed.....

I think both of you have gone too far here. He had a shut out with the best players. With lesser talent does he give up 14 or 21 points? Could be. He is saying he was not surprised by Vandy plays and he knows the scheme works (with the best players). The big problem IMHO yesterday was the blown tackles. Sometimes open field 1 on 1 and then the Vandy player would get another 10 yards. You have to win 1 on 1 matchups sometimes. At other points in the game notably late, we had 3 people trying to tackle and got dragged for another 5 yards. The team really didn't look good the last two weeks with lack of effort and the talent is lacking at many positions.

If I remember correctly, Neyland's quote after being hired at UT was, "I was brought here to beat Vanderbilt."

The “best players” beat Vandy 59-0 last year. We don’t need “the best”, just a helluva lot better than the ones we had this year. Don’t need 59-0....I’d take 3-2 at this point.

Are we talk for tennessee to shut vandy out or just be competative with them? Cause if you think the latter is true, im afraid you call in the shortsighted redneck category.

We won't win every game regardless. But we beat Auburn at Auburn, and we beat Kentucky - and I don't know anyone that would argue we had a better roster in those games.

Listen, some of you are just extremely simple people, and you wouldn't have a platform to voice your opinion if it wasn't for the internet. I long for those days, but it is what it is.

When you have players show up one game and play awesome (Auburn, Kentucky) - and then at times appear completely clueless (Charlotte, Vandy, WVU) it isn't coaching. That's literally just individuals choosing not to care. Some of that can be changed with culture over time, but a lot of it is innate. Which is why there are people in your high school class that range from felon to medical doctor. Same teachers. Same education. THE INDIVIDUAL MATTERS. Alabama recruits not just ability, but mental fitness. Other schools have to ignore the mental toughness of players in a gamble that their ability will be a net positive. It takes time, but hounding a guy that has literally achieved the highest level of success at his previous jobs is not the answer. I've been very encouraged by the attitude I've seen in our freshman.

Get a freakin' grip.

Kentucky and Auburn are very "flawed" teams, dont care what their record is or what they were "ranked". Winning those games is not like beating the 85' Bears and nothing earth shattering. I long for the days where people like you understand THAT!

Please point out where I said anything of the sort. Like even anywhere close. I'll wait for your evidence.

Or is it possible you not only misinterpret football and program development, but also struggle with reading comprehension. Color me shocked.

An example of how to argue your point would be as follows. Let's say I wanted to prove you were an idiot, for instance. So I would say:

So we wont win unless we get the absolute best players???

Myself:
I disagree with this because we beat Auburn and Kentucky who obviously have better rosters.

And thus, the point is proven.

Additionally, and this may shock you so brace yourself. Yes, teams primarily win if they have better players.

I don't think anyone said it was earth shattering. But it is something. Answer me this. When is the last time we had a so called earth shattering victory? One where we were at a sizeable talent disadvantage. I honestly can't think of anything since the 86 Sugar Bowl.

Pruitt was just saying what he has said all year-"We do not have the right guys". Nothing is going to change until we get an O line. by the time we got to MO and Vandy the few guys we had that were capable of playing at t high level were either injured or just flat worn out due to having to take 90% of the snaps all year. Shy Tuttle faced double team blocks all year since he was the only threat on the d line. Teams blitzed over Trey until he went out and then they came from everywhere. JG was banged up all year from all the hits he took. Chandler was having to dodge tackles 2-3 yard in the back field all day as well as Jordan. Our linebackers were having to drop so deep to help the secondary that 5 yard crossing routes and quick slants were easy pickings for first downs all year long and what should have been 1-2 yard runs became 6-8 since the LB was not there to plug the hole. Our Dbs were playing with their back to the ball all years and having TD passes go right by their head all year.

But part of the blame has to go to Pruitt. He insisted on players adapting to his style and not adjusting his style to the players he had. When he gets HIS players in place things will change but it will take time.
