'19 FL PG Tre Mann

I'm not going full-ziti yet...but Mann is a kid that has a good relationship with an assistant coach at UT, which is coming off of one of the more successful years in recent program history...and we apparently aren't going to land him. Frustrating, to say the least.

1. Mississippi State lost a recruit to UNC last year who’s dad was on staff at State, so just because you have a relationship doesn’t guarantee anything.

2. I don’t think Mann is gone, not even close. I think Tennessee is attempting to get in the door and recruit some options for October/November if Mann goes elsewhere, but as of now I think they still are confident.

Barnes and Co. feel good about where they stand with him aren't putting all of their eggs in one basket which is smart. Like I said before, Mann in particular is just weighing his options. He will look at who he is competing against for playing time, if a team is tournament ready, and a coach that can get him to the league. The blue-blood offers are just icing on the cake. I like that the kid plays with a chip on his shoulder. His AAU team is out-manned (no pun intended) in most tournaments, but he doesn't back down from anyone. He plays with a certain kind of 🔥 and athletic ability that Barnes likes from his point man. If this lingers into the season and we're sitting in the top 10 polls, top players will notice that last year wasn't a fluke. Don't give up yet.

Good point on the relationship thing...but that was Miss. St. and we're Tennessee...so I don't blame the kid for going to UNC :)

Hope you're right about us not being out of it yet.

Still don't get why barnes has such a hard time with top rated recruits after how we did last season. I think we don't have a bagman 💰💰💰

So, is Loyola-Chicago on par with UNC? The truth is that in this day and age, anyone is capable of beating anyone, so basing a school’s reputation on one season isn’t going to necessarily yield an accurate result.

No one is asking you to “pathetically shiver at the thought of UNC offering”, but to believe it isn’t a game changer for a lot of these kids is just ignorant. In the public’s eye, UNC>>>Tennessee in basketball whether you want to recognize that fact or not.

Bullseye.

Is our history equal? No. But in the here and now we are capable of beating all those blue blood programs. I apologize for not pathetically shivering at the thought of UNC offering a recruit we are going to sign.

Hate to point it out but....we didn't beat them last year.

Please show me where in my post I said we did.

You didn't, but I'm trying to follow your very confusing take on all this. You've gone from acting like we're elite because of preseason rankings, then downplaying an actual historically elite program in UNC because they only made the second round last year, to then saying we can beat the blue bloods....to which I'm pointing out that last year, one of our better years in history, we lost to said blue blood in a year that was disappointing to them.

So while I get you don't like UNC, the truth is we are not elite and we are not remotely comparable to them in any "elite" way yet. Last year was great, but it wasn't elite. And we won't be elite until we start getting it done in March, and that means at least getting to some Final Fours.

Thiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiis

The man only said we can beat a blue blood team. We beat a blue blood last year, just not UNC.

I don’t think he was being argumentative or saying we were a blue blood. Just that last year and next we play among the best. I agree that doesn’t mean we can recruit with the blue bloods.

Personally, I feel Mann wants to be with a blue blood team and we are now his safety net.

Ah, young people. If we’re him I would be looking for playing time and a coach that could make me an MBA player. I guess practice aginst the best players every day is also a plus.

Lol, he was most certainly being argumentative if you followed the progression of his posts.

I think not making Walkers list gives us an idea of where this is going. Not sure why Barnes is having so much trouble with top 100 recruits seeing the job he's done with players but I'm OK with the teams he's put on the floor. Maybe we just have to settle with being the Boise St. of basketball.LOL

Bad comparison. Boise St. wishes it was in as good of a conference for football, as the SEC is in basketball (actually maybe not, because they’d lose a lot more). We’re more like a Wisconsin. Probably 2nd-3rd best conference in the sport and winning with 3 stars.

Need a better bagman.

Barnes isn't playing the same game some of the other coaches are.
