'18 MD DT P.J. Mustipher

Owings Mills (Md.) McDonogh Top247 defensive tackle PJ Mustipher stood in at 6-foot-5, 290-pounds and impressed with his quickness, motor and athleticism. Also a basketball player and wrestler, the long-framed Mustipher has plenty of upside in the tank. Top schools include Notre Dame, Ohio State, Penn State and Tennessee. A decision could come within the month. Mustipher was invited to The Opening finals.

Would be an all time DA move to limit the class on 4* DT.

Bama does it every year. That's what happens as you get better... There are more good players than you can accept.

Tony wanted 3 qbs and 6Rbs as I recall using the same logic.

And 10 OL. Don't forget the OL.

I figure we'd just start putting nothing but O linemen on the field at once. Throw 11 of them out there. We'll skip the jumbo package and just call it the "holy s*** they're coming at me" package.

As a former OL, i like the way you think. Tired of all these scrawny QBs, RBs and WRs getting all the glory

Agree with Big Ziti on the 4* DTs.

So..what position are you going to short? I mean, I get the thought, and I understand where that comes from considering what just happened this year, but that was a freak occurrence. I have never seen it before.

II get the point, but I'd still take four DTs before over loading at other positions where players are riding pine. We need, need, need D-line. We don't need, need, need 5 QBs, 6 RBs, etc., etc. jmho

Most important position to recruit is defensive tackle.

1. There's fewer of them
2. Our state typically doesn't produce many of them
3. Because there are fewer DT the recruits that position are more highly coveted. You take as many SEC level DT as you can get every single year.
4. Arguably the most important position on the defense in this conference. interior defensive lineman is one of the things that separates this conference from the rest.

Doesn't matter what position you short, you get a chance to add four 4* DT to this roster, you don't hesitate. Its very unlikely it will happen though. But passing the opportunity to land a fourth one would be insanely dumb.

We weren't good enough there to begin with. Even before the injuries. Got to keep landing those guys. Can't have enough.

Doesn't matter which position you short. DT is more important than pretty much every other. Could make an argument for QB but reality is you need 1 QB to be good and to stay healthy.

Its hard to get 4 legit SEC DTs in the same class for obvious reasons. Assuming you would take 4 to begin with.

Great discussion from both points of view. I think if you can pick up 4 legit SEC DTs in one class you might do it. Typically more than 2 or 3 each class might cause imbalance in your team numbers. This will be especially true going forward with the hard 25 per class rule just passed.

Especially when you have to play Georgia Tech. Take them all.

They wont turn down Mustipher if he wants on board. Never turn away a difference maker type at DT.

A couple thoughts on this:

1. He's the type of guy who will really clog things up in the middle against the run. IMO both him and Lawless really jump out to me when it comes to their physical build. They are two of the more impressive DT's in this class from that standpoint.

2. I don't think it is a slam dunk that Emerson is 100% a DT. I think he could still possibly play some on the Strong Side.

3. With Litaker coming off such a big injury and missing last season I think you have to bring in at least a couple other DT's along with him.

4. DT's are in more demand than any other position for a reason. And in this league you absolutely have to have difference makers there.

My thought too.

would you rather take 4 this year and at best 2 the year after, or 3 this year with a good shot at 3 the next year?

loading up just hurts us the next year, and is what leads to situations like 2016 where we get no freshman.

last time I checked 4 + 2 and 3 + 3 equal the same so I say if you have a shot at pulling in 4 really good DTs one year, you do it.
