'18 DT TN D'Andre Litaker

Breaks my heart for this kid, hope he perseveres & overcomes this latest setback.

Riverdale's football team and senior defensive lineman D'Andre Litaker feared the worst over the weekend. On Monday, it was confirmed that Litaker, a University of Tennessee commitment, suffered a torn ACL on his right knee during Friday's 49-24 win over Spring Hill. It's a same knee he battled an MCL sprain more than a year ago, but not the one in which he had ACL surgery a year ago.

"Hopefully he will be able to rehab and get back on the field next summer or fall," said Riverdale coach Will Kriesky. The 6-foot-2, 300-pound tackle has played only a handful of high school football games in his career. Litaker played just 10 plays during the 2016 season before missing the rest of the year with an ACL injury in his left knee.

"It's really disappointing for Dre," said Kriesky. "He's had so much adversity in his life, but he still stays positive. He's dealt with more in his 18 years than most people deal with in 40 or 50 years. It's a big blow for him. Everyone is upset for him."

I wonder what the back lash would be if we told this kid to walk. I think you take him and RS him.

I agree that you take him and RS him. He's a quality recruit and appears to be a quality young man. This is the type of kid you root for and feel good that he'll overcome obstacles that are (have been) thrown his way.

You're basically committing career suicide in the midstate to tell this kid to hit the bricks. Not smart. It sucks for everyone involved, but eat the scholarship and live to fight another day. Butch has enough problems to overcome in recruiting without pissing off the most talent-rich area of our state.

Is it just me or does it seem like there are a ton more injuries than there used to be? I wonder if the injury rate has increased dramatically, because these kids are playing from a very young age, and play pretty much year round. Basketball is almost a year round sport now, as is baseball and softball, with AAU, travel squads, etc etc. The football camps have even made that sport more of a year round thing. I don't think it's good for the kids. I think their ligaments, tendons, and muscles are getting fatigued due to excessive wear without a long enough time to heal and gain full strength, thus causing more injuries. Just some thoughts. Anyone else see the same increase in injuries?

This is what I would be afraid of. Burning bridges with schools, players, and coaches. This is a tough one. In my heart I would rather go after a more healthy replacement but what would the consequences be in the long run?

Seems that way to me too. I wonder if it might be because they start serious weight training so much earlier? Maybe collisions have more force behind them and that causes more injuries at a younger age? I don't know, and I don't have any evidence to back anything up, but I agree that anecdotally, it seems like there are more injuries these days.

Yep. Honor your word to the young man.

I remember reading an interview with Dr. James Andrews and he was saying the amount of
Tommy John surgeries he does on kids was concerning.

he will still have his spot, look for him to red shirt next year and get great treatment. knee will be fully healthy for the 2019 season. I think he rushed back this year. Tennessee will not let him make that mistake again.

No scholly IMO

I think there are a few schools in state you wouldn't want to piss off the coach. Riverdale would be one. They normally have a few sec caliber players every couple years. Hate it for the kid but bring him in redshirt him and if all else fails he gets the Andrew Butcher treatment.

Dre is well thought of by ALL Murfreesboro/Rutherford County programs. His story touched many in this community. Need to handle this delicately.

It's a simple decision to make and one Butch has made recently (Brooks). If the medical staff believe he can recover and be college football ready, and Dre wants to continue footballing at UT - you honor the offer. Why would they do otherwise and destroy relationships? Besides he is on the D-line, not a RB or WR. There's a whole lot more to teams than just starters. If I had to wager, I would bet the character of Dre after he recovers and with all he has gone through will be solid as steel. Somebody his teammates would lean on.

As already posted, RS and let Rock have at him. Proud to have him.

That was more specifically my point. This isn't your average case. Litaker's story is well known in the midstate. You really run a risk of burning bridges at more than just Riverdale by getting cutthroat in this particular situation. Tread lightly, support the kid, eat the scholly and hope for the best; and you may just generate some additional goodwill and support with these midstate coaches. Turn your back on him at this point, and you really aren't living out this family environment you've worked 5 years to portray. And they're all going to point at Devante Brooks, who tore his ACL his JR and SR year of HS, and wonder why you honored his scholarship and turned away an instate kid with similar upside.

What is dumb is that there is probably zero chance our coaches are not going to honor this kids scholarship. CBJ has proven that he honors his commitments even when they get injured. But because some idiot fans want to keep bringing it up the idea of dropping him keeps coming up.
