He needs to do more than make the right hires imo. He is going to have to win the East and beat Alabama at some point. He is also going to have to improve his in game coaching and his players in game discipline.

No doubt there are improvements he can make. But staff hires can go a long way

At this stage at least, I'm liking where it is going. The end result will give a better indication, but it does seem like he is trying to hit a few long balls with a possible home run or two mixed in.

Hiring "The Rock" was a good move IMO. If LS does get the OC job, I'm not opposed to that. I think he will be allowed to tweak the system (think we already seen some in the bowl game). Get a good QB coach on staff and let Shoop hire who he wants. I'd be good with that.

Replacing Mahoney to me isn't as big a deal as it is with others. I think he has done ok with development...not necessarily great, but ok. Part of that has been due to injury over the last couple of years too though. If he's replaced by someone better, I'll be happy. If he is retained, I won't cry about it.

I don't think those things necessarily HAVE to be done next year though. East should have been ours this year, but contrary to what a lot think, he doesn't have to win it next year, if the season turns out well.

Had we lost to say aTm, Bama and GA this year (losing the east) people would be talking a lot different about the Vols. What can't happen next year is SC & Vandy (or whoever the crap teams are next year). Also can't have the App State and Ohio games next year either.

I think Ray and Solomon are the top two DLs on Bama's board followed by Mathis and Conliffe. I'm pretty sure Bama wants to get at least two, maybe three of those four. I doubt they would take all four unless they miss on other targets at other positions.

Maybe not both next year but one of them needs to happen. At some point, Tennessee has to beat Alabama.

Why wait until after NSD to move Strip and bring Hoke on board?

I think it's less opportunity for other teams to negative recruit. As in, the guy who recruited you just left. Sure you don't want to come here instead?

Butch wil tell them not to worry about that stuff. That is just a message board rumor. Makes no sense to lie about an impending coaching change. If anything you use it for an advantage.

IF it does happen then this gives Strip time for a face to face with the recruits and tell them what's what and besides IF he does take an admin job it's not like he's gone completely

Four-star DT Elijah Conliffe is maybe somewhere around a 50-50 shot right now. There's certainly reason to believe Tennessee has a good chance, and the Vols would love to have him.

I didn't know Bama missed on targets - News to me.

Who have they "missed on" recently that they really wanted? Additionally, just because a recruit has an offer doesn't mean they're really wanted - Gitshirts do exist.
