'17' TN ATH Tee Higgins (Clemson commit)

It's all about winning. If he committed to us now we'd lose him later if we don't win. We'll get him later if we kill it this year, regardless of his commitment to Clemson now. And maybe a little evidence that Butch/Azzanni are capable of using WR.

Our program has withstood the Kiffen and Dooley eras. Surely we will withstand Tee Higgins commitment. VFL

Maybe. What if Clemson has a big year too?

Let me preface this post by saying I would love to have seen Tee commit to the good guys today. I still have some concerns with him, but Clemson will be getting a good one if that's where he ends up 7 months from now.

Now to the issue of our WR recruiting/production. Below is a list, with composite rankings, of the WRs Butch/Azzanni have enrolled over their 4 classes here. It's obvious we don't have issues recruiting top talent at that position.

4* North
4* Malone
4* Pearson
4* Williams
4* Byrd
4* Callaway
4* Jennings
3* Williams
3* Johnson
3* Perry
3* George
3* Wharton
3* Jenkins
3* Harris
3* Smith

Now it comes to production to keep the talent coming. You can't really blame Butch and company for leaning on the run game and "neglecting" the passing game the last few years given these factors: lack of talent at QB, inexperience of OL, and talent at RB. Sure we could have been been better in the throw game, but we were never going to blow anyone away like the WRU of old.

With the evolution of Dobbs this offseason and the increased experience of our OL we should expect to see a more balanced attack this year (although still leaning toward the run game). We need and should see Williams, Malone, & Smith pick up the production this year. Doing that and reaching Atlanta will make us all very happy come NSD '17.

Evolution of Dobbs??? Dobbs hasn't learned or been taught how to properly throw a football in the 3 yrs he has been playing. You think he is going to come out this year and all of a sudden know how to throw it?? Why would you see the production of any of those receivers pick up? Our receivers havent gotten better in years...maybe have gotten worse. The coaches on the offensive side of the ball need upgrading.

So, you're another one of those Vol fans that thinks Dobbs is the problem? Please tell me not!

First off I do not recall LWS saying that, only that lawsuit was hurting us, not that we are second tier program now.

Also we should be more mature imo. I know I hate he chose them too, but I would still rather lose him to Clemson than team in burgundy or Florida.

As far as us being mature, I think it's pointless to wish bad things on the kid. That being said I think it's pretty douchey to spurn the hometown team in the form of a fireworks display. I hope his football career works out, because he probably won't be getting a lot of future job offers in East Tennessee.

Classic revenge would be if we met in college playoff and Shoops put clamps on their offense and we put a beat down on them with multiple passing TDs then we can do the Homer Simpson gifs for Tee, Amari and Hunter

No one player is a program breaker but Butch has placed an emphasis on in-state recruiting and losing a kid from OR would be a kick in the sack for sure. It would be our most significant recruiting loss for a player we once had a lead for since Cadillac Williams (in 2001), in my opinion. I don't think it's over, however. If Higgins doesn't attend the Florida game on a day when Clemson is off or the Alabama game when Clemson is playing NC State - then it's over.

There is no way to dice it other than this is a MAJOR, MAJOR, MAJOR FAILURE by Butch Jones and company. Certainly, it isn't over yet with NSD about seven months away but rest assured this is an incredibly negative outcome for UT. This is an indictment of our WRs' performance under Butch to date. If CZA isn't cutting it coaching or recruiting, he needs to be gone...yesterday.

We are getting our teeth kicked in by Clemson. They took Hunter Johnson from us. They took Rodgers, who is our NC QB's son, from us. And now they've taken Tee, a Vols fan from our own backyard. This is beyond embarrassing.

Losing Johnson was one thing. Rodgers another. Higgins is a whole other thing. Add on the fact that Trevor Lawrence was ours to lose and/or Emory Jones and we may not get either and something is wrong on the Hill.

The promised magic '17 class is not panning out at all so far. And, yes, I know we have months to go until signing day and I've always known that we needed to win to pull the big recruits this year but we aren't even on a decent trajectory right now.

Very well said. Dobbs is not going to get better until we have a real QB coach. I would move DeBord to OL and bring in a new OC.

If Clemson has a no visit rule after committing, why would Tee commit today? If UT winning would impact his decision, why not wait? This ship has sailed. I think you're looking for something that isn't there.

Oh well. Hopefully something can change before now and NSD and we can flip him. It would really suck to lose the top guys in the state though.

Been a while since I've seen a good meltdown. I must say VolNation NEVER disapoints...

Because I don't think that policy means anything to him and he is a little flaky and ships don't sail in July - not for a former commitment down the road. I guarantee you that is not the attitude of our staff. Telling a kid in Oak Ridge not to visit Knoxville is a lot different than telling a kid in Virginia not to visit Knoxville. He already has one de-commitment and as recently as last week mentioned a visit to Ohio St. We will see... I do think he is here for the Florida game.

Much truth to this post. However some on here will say oh there is a long way until NSD and everything is fine. Even though its not fine. We will probably sign another "diamond in the rough 3*" to compensate for the loss.

I wonder how long it will take before we hear comments like oh well he wasnt that high on our board. We passed on him awhile ago or my favorite, we are obviously in on much better players.

Guys maybe he just wanted to go to school out of town and go somewhere that has the most recent success of supplying the NFL with ready set wide outs...
