'17' TN ATH Tee Higgins (Clemson commit)

Jerry Colquitt was a very good quarterback who sat behind Heath Shuler for three years. He was all set to start in '94, but he had a season ending injury early in the first game against UCLA. Still feel bad for him for not getting his chance to shine.

7th play of the first game. It happened on my 15th birthday. Remember it like it was yesterday.

Yeah...that's much...better?

I'm not trying to validate or prove a point, just giving an opinion. I'm fully aware that message boards are forums for people to say just about anything...and likewise to get called out on what they say. No different than what you guys are doing to me. Its cool

I remember my dad telling me stories about when jerry played at oak ridge in the late 80s. Jerry is the QB that got hurt in the UCLA game that let Peyton Manning take over. Anyways i still think that Shawn Summers is the best player to come out of Oak Ridge but Tee still has 2 years left. When all is said and done he may pass Shawn Summers as the best ive ever seen at Oak Ridge.

Was it not Todd Helton that took over for a short period of time? He then got hurt, which ushered in the Peyton Manning era.

yes sir it was. I was listening to the game on the radio on the way down to my grandfathers in Georgia. My dad used to go to all Oak Ridge games in the late 80's early 90's. He was convinced that Jerry Colquitt would win Tennessee a National Championship that year but on the way to Georgia when the injury happened my dad just about wrecked the car. He was a huge fan of Jerry Colquitt still talks about him, Shawn Summers, Mike Underwood, and Richard Howard to this day. I remember it like it was yesterday i was 8 years old.

I had the fortune of seeing Heath and Jerry face off in an OR-Central game way back in the day. IIRC, Heath was already committed and I think Jerry was either committed or expected to attend UT at the time.

As to comparisons to Pickens, Jerry would know. Say what you will about comparisons, but that is high praise in my book.

If your talking about the 1991 Central/Oak Ridge game Jerry had already graduated and was at UT at that time. Mike Underwood was the QB in that game. That was Oak Ridge state championship year. I assume you are talking about Todd Helton too, Heath played in North Carolina

Todd took over that game until garbage time when boy-wonder Peyton got the nod over Branndon Stewart. Todd later got hurt in the Miss St game and Peyton never looked back.

Yep, getting my QB's bass ackwards. It was Todd vs. Jerry. The references to Heath threw me off. Can't recall the year, but I recall one being a year older than the other and the elder one being committed.

That would probably be 1990 or 1989. Jerry was the one committed he was older then Todd. I thought you were talking about the 1991 game which was todd vs Mike Underwood my apologizes.

It would've been Jerry's senior year then, which makes it 1990. Man, that was 25 years ago.

What a dumb statement to make about a 16 year old kid. "Will go down in the same breath as Carl Pickens". Give me a break. These comparisons need to stop. It isn't fair to the kid and is completely asinine to any Vol fan with the slightest bit of intelligence. To make any projections about Tee Higgins place in Volunteer history at this point in time is beyond ludicrous.

So you're saying Ludacris is not very smart?

Anyone in the Kingsport Area going to the DB/OR game just to watch Higgins tomorrow?

Yea, even though DB is where I went to school, I admit I'm mostly going to see Tee play..

I watched the Oak Ridge vs Clinton game last week on Saturday when they reran it in my area. Oak Ridge has one of the best defenses ive seen in a while. There offense is a totally different story besides Tee they have nothing on offense. If DB can score on Oak Ridge DB should win the game cause oak ridge wont score more than 14 probably.

Yea their defense is STOUT. Missing their best linebacker right now as well. The problem with OR is they don't really have a guy that can "consistently" throw the ball well. The bigger problem is that the O-line they have is probably one of the least talented I have ever seen at OR. They changed their offense in hopes that blocking technique could be more effective than their guys trying to block one on one. Bottom line, Tee will get his.

I agree with you on that. They have a running back playing QB pretty much with Jordan Dunbar. Taking nothing away from him but he is not a QB.

Yeah, if you had a mixture of Dunbar & the other guy who is a little taller you would have a pretty decent QB. You can see tonight though, Tee will get the ball no matter what offense they're running.

*Tee has 85 yards on 6 catches in the first half, and a few tackles on defense as well.

* 51 yard TD in double coverage. 7 catches 135 yards.

Sounds like an absolute boss.

Tee looked good.. I didn't get that 'man amongst boys' feel about him but he had a really good game on both sides of the ball..

One thing about the TSSAA, their officiating still SUCKS... Just awful officiating.... Other than that it was a really good game..

What exactly do you mean? I don't expect him to out muscle guys or break tackles. I have just assumed he was a deep ball threat with great hands and body control. Not a homer here but just curious whatbyiubwouls have liked to have seen him to better because those are fantastic numbers for a receiver on a team that supposedly is run heavy,

I think he means like Randy Moss looked while at Marshall, he made them look silly on the field.

Easy.. No disrespect intended at all.. I said he looked good.. Had a great catch for the long TD.. It's one game, early in the season against a good opponent.. Barring injury, I believe he'll put up huge numbers this year..

The 'man amongst boys' comment is JMO.. An example of what I mean is when James 'Little Man' Stewart came to DB during the playoffs and single handedly destroyed DB.. He literally never left the field.. Admittedly Tee has a better supporting cast and doesn't have to carry his team the way Stewart did..

That being said, I am thrilled Tee is committed to the Vols..
