'17 MS RB Cam Akers (FSU commit 12/27)

Generous. I would say the three culprits are Vol30, Leb, and the LSU fan. I guess all 3 probably fit into your opposing fan category though.

I'd give you Vol30 and Leb.

LSU-SIU is a good poster though. I wouldn't group him with the others...even if he is the other one to like the quote...lol.

Yeah, usually I only post on recruits that I might have info and on a rare occasion on someone I like that I think others should take a look at. I have also posted warnings on certain recruits, but that one is a hard one to pull off especially if they are a signed recruit of UT. On a few occasions I have pointed to a few recruits either LSU did not offer (or slow played) which I thought were SEC material i.e. Russell Gage comes to mind (who ended up getting an offer from LSU)

If LSU hasn't offered, I am usually suspect if they come from Louisiana... although I wouldn't say they have been 100% of overshooting... they are pretty good most of the time. As far as the out of state guys, I am usually suspect on them until they show up on campus. UT has a hard time recruiting in Louisiana just like LSU has a hard time picking them out of Tennessee. (I will note Akers is from MS)

As far as Akers, all I did was pass on what I knew at the time, I'm not placing any bets on where a 18 year old ends up signing.

I'm not placing any bets either. I won't even be upset if he doesn't pick UT. The young man has kept everyone guessing.

I would love to get him though.

I know. I appreciate the comment, thank you.

As far as the diamond in the rough this year... Amik Robertson, committed to La. Tech but to me can play big time SEC ball, the con is he is small.

Ole Miss is selling the fact that he's from the Sip and it's his state school. That he would be used in conjunction with Patterson and be allowed to do the run/pass option. With the sanctions possibly looming, it's not helping their cause with him. If there were no possible sanctions, they would be in a better position.

LSU has came on as of late. Many feel they have an outside shot. He would rather play in a pro style type of offense, which is an attraction that LSU has. Then the hire of Canada, who many recruits like, should bolster their offense, and Canada said he will adjust his scheme to his players ability. LSU has one RB (Edwards-Helaire) and a FB from Ga as their only recruits to the already crowded backfield. (Guice, Williams, Brossette, Henry and RS Freshman Fournette). And FB's Gallman, Ducre, and Moore. Also, LSU signed Coach Raymond to a 3 year deal. So, he'll still be there.

FSU on the other hand, is everyones pick. They were at his State Championship game, and Brewster, Jay, and Coach Fisher all made it in before the dead period. He's a priority and are selling him as the next Cook. They don't really have a super star talent next year. The have bodies, but no real threat to Akers coming in and taking over. He's had a few visits there to include an official. It's gonna be a tough decision not to go to FSU.

OSU is OSU. They also have a stable of backs and Weber will probably see more time next season. He likes them, but I don't see him going there.

The Vols have as good a chance as any. NO ONE is picking the Vols, but he's been on campus more in the last 2 years than probably any where else. There's no need for an official because he's seen everything. Our depth chart is favorable as any, and we have CRG on our side. I hope his influence can sway Cam to the good guys. When he picks the Vols, every analyst will probably have a stroke.

Nice summary of the schools involved.

This past Sunday, Doug Matthews commented that by the end of signing day, the 2017 class for the Vols will rival the signing class of 2014. If you buy what Matthews is selling, then I would think that sells a pretty good picture for our chances with Cam Akers or Travis Ettiene.

Wow! Atlanta Vol said the same thing about a possible top 5 class but I just don't see it. I sure hope I am wrong, and they are right.

Think this would require Akers, Ray, and one more big fish.

You saying you think we get Akers?

I think it is time to start checking Doug's stats. He seems to say a lot of things that only he says and they don't ever seem to be accurate.

Doug throws a lot of stuff out there and occasionally gets stuff to stick. He has been saying for two years now that JJ was moving to Safety.

LSU's backfield is not crowded, LSU needs 2 RBs just to hopefully keep pace.

- Fournette (NFL)
- Williams (senior)
- Guice (NFL bound after next year)
- Fournette brother (not really SEC material, but I could see him running jet sweeps)
- Brossette (coming off knee surgery, I think once completely healthy he will be a very good back, but he will be a junior)
- Henry (squad player, not sure how this got into the mix)
- Edwards-Helaire (lone RB recruit, currently injured, has the ability to be a good back but he lacks size(??))

Typically LSU is run first focused, not sure that is going to change under Canada. Of course, Canada will adjust the offense based on personnel, but LSU really needs 2 this year and 2 next year. If he wants 230+ carries next year, well, he might want to look elsewhere but I never understood why RBs want that many carries anyway in the SEC. If he is ready to play I could see him getting 30-60 carriers next year, and then its a competition between him and Brossette for 2018, in which Brossette is a senior.

I think the biggest issue as far as him, is how much Canada changes the offense as you mentioned he wants to play in a pro offense. My take is LSU will have to seriously consider converting players to RB from other positions if they don't get another RB in the case... White probably can't be... because he is really the lone ILB on the roster next year.... which could lead to Ducre being moved back to RB from FB.

does he have any SEC offers

No. His highest offer is probably Arizona. He tore up camps over the summer and even in 2015. Lack of size is really the only thing against him, very good cover and ball skills

Elite Senior Mix - Amik Robertson highlights - Hudl

The 3 minute mark is hilarious.

The thinking at LSU is that 2018 CB class could be up there, they have a commitment from Joseph and they might be able to secure Surtain, and even possibly Cook as well.

He's quite the showboat. Speed, athleticism, and agility are definitely elite though. Half of his runs he was just gliding until he needed to turn it on. He will get wrecked in college if he does half of those things he did in that film, especially just laying the ball down just inside the goal line. Someone will take his head off.
