'17 MS RB Cam Akers (FSU commit 12/27)

I don't see any reason we can't set our expectations that high. Lewis, Henry, and Stephens were all great backs we got in 1997 also. Great players aren't afraid of the competition.

I think its going to take a great season. Recruits are going to have to see if Tennessee is for real. Think back at how good we were when we landed those RBs. We get back to the point when winning 10 games was considered a down season and things will be much easier in recruiting.

Would have had Cadillac too had Auburn coaches not knowingly and admittingly cheated

and Williams turned out to be the best of the bunch. Was a vol lock until that late visit to Auburn. I think UT slow played Davis that year until we lost Caddy. Fulmer was an amazing recruiter.

I personally would include Gore. Fitzgerald is still going strong.

Gore was solid for a long time, people kept writing him off after his knee injuries but he just kept on racking up yardage.

Derrick Tinsley was a legend in the Marietta, Ga area. I thought he was destined for greatness. Jabari Davis was called Little Earl when he played for Tucker. Looked like he was going to be a great one also.

He's going to be a massive bust in college.

I've been saying this since before he decommed...Watch his games. He has no heart. Not much brain either. Perfect combo of the straw man, and the tin man. Come to think of it, as scared as he gets under pressure..he has a lot of cowardly lion in their too.

Agree about Gore. That guy was a beast until he retired and took way more physical punishment than Fitzgerald

No reason why we can't sign 2 backs in the top 100. Back in 2001 we signed 3, all in the top 50. Wish they could bring Fulmer back as a recruiting consultant. 7 players in the top 100.

1. RB Kevin Jones VT
3. TE Marcus Spears TE LSU
6. QB Brodie Croyle AL
17. QB DJ Shockley UGA
19. RB Jabari Davis Tennessee
20. LB Kevin Simon TN
22. RB Cedric Benson Tx
24. RB Caddilac Williams Auburn
36. QB Joe Mauer Fl State
41. RB Derrick Tinsley TN
44. RB Cedric Houston TN
47. CB Robert Boulware TN
51. QB Matt Leinert USC
73. RB Frank Gore Miami
74. Montrell Jones WR Tennessee
86 CJ Fayton Tennessee TN
97 Larry Fitzgerald Pitt

I'm not sure that one of those 7 ever made an All-SEC team unless it was Simon. That's the reason we don't need Fulmer as a recruiting consultant. The last ten years, he let the sites do the work for him instead of evaluating the talent.

Amen! Even with a loaded class they generally didn't mesh...after Cut left, fundamentals went to hell (even tho he's not known for his recruiting) Cut seemed to be able to identify the recruits who would allow themselves to be coached up. Like the college version of Bill Parcells and Jimmy Johnson (or like the college Jimmy :)). Like you said, in those last seasons, CPF would go down the scouting lists and sign whoever said yes. Not much of a backup plan if too many said no...hence some lower ranked classes.

Your last two sentences are dumb and wrong at the same time. Wow.

Well Vicki at least I was able to add some articulation to my comment, instead of just throwing some random drive by criticism. I don't have to say anything else about your husbands recruiting. The more than 25 busts in the 2005/2007 recruiting classes say all I need. Daniel Brooks, Chris Donald and Slick Shelley say hi BTW.

Sure thing Betty.

Did they have similar offer lists? If so, you could say that could have happened to any team.

Oh yeah, and were the offers commit-able or nah? 😭

Has anyone else noticed that all of Akers' HUDL film seems to be sped up a bit? At first glance it looks a little off, but became more apparent as I watched the side judge. Sped up or not he still accelerates past the competition, but so do a few of his teammates.

Joe Mauer made the best decision of his life to choose baseball instead.

He's gone. 9-3 this year just missing out on getting to ATL won't be enough to impress him, and many other top recruits sadly. The dark clouds over Knoxville are indeed eternal.
